Reviews of Sushi Train

A cool concept, worth trying but just above average.

Would have given it 3.5 stars if possible.

Those of you who follow my food reviews know that sushi is my kryptonite, I love some good sushi and sashimi. It is kind of eerie sometimes how I just get this tingle, some would call it a sixth sense, when I am out and about. Somehow, someway I just know that there is a sushi place near.

I have been to sushi train numerous times and at various times of day. First off, I do love the concept of the train. This was the first city I saw this in and really loved the idea of being able to try out different types of sushi without having to buy full rolls, I could see this adapted to other "genres" of food as well.

For the most part I have liked what I have tried there and will say that I do like having the choices available. So why the "above average" comment at the start of the review? Because there are times that items seem to sit before they get to hop onto the train for their ride around and for the rest of you who like sushi I think you will agree with me that one of the most important factors of freshness is just how quickly that sushi is served after it is made.

That is one of the biggest draw backs of sushi at a buffet (which this is not, but I am using as a reference), it tends to sit around. I have never timed how long the sushi sits at the window waiting to go out onto the train, but I know I have gotten some that has sat at room temperature too long to really be considered nice and fresh. This doesn't happen often ming you, if it did I would be giving them a bad review and never gone back and I am not doing that. I will return to them again in the future.

Customer service is generally good, a few times it has been lacking but for the most part it has been good. Facility has been clean, no complaints there.

In summary, do I think they are worth trying out? Sure I do! The value is there for what you spend especially in relation to choices available. If they could get their timing a bit better, that would really put them over the...

I once loved this sushi restaurant, so this review is personally conflicting. I recently went there last night and I have no idea what has happened to the customer service. To put it bluntly, If you don't personally know anyone that works at sushi train you shouldn't go there It's a clique-ish place, if you're expecting to be greeted at the door you shouldn't go there, if you are expecting a nice experience at a restaurant you should probably go to a different place. The only reason why I'm giving them a 2 star is because they had a decent waitress named Nikki, and the fish was good quality. I don't know if it's a new thing but they don't serve their sushi with wasabi or pickled Ginger anymore or maybe they were just trying to let us know that they didn't want us there. They no longer serve beer even though it's still on their menu. Over all the place left me very uneasy It's felt is though you're being watched but not being served. If I had a choice of going back there are going to the grocery store, I'm going to the grocery store. This is not the type of restaurant that you go to for the restaurant experience If you're expecting that, then you're going to be disappointed, it's better to just get pick up from a place like this. The hostess in the pink hoodie didn't seat us, or give menus I had to go and get them myself. When she finally came over to ask us if we wanted drinks she had a very cold and annoyed demeanor. To sum up everything good about the place The Décor was very down-to-earth, the food was alright, and Nicky was a...

The sushi is typically good and I enjoy having the variety at a decent price. The waiters/waitresses are generally friendly, I would say the waitresses are more attentive to your needs than the waiters (the guys seems to be a little clueless/lost and unfortunately it makes the customer service experience poor). I would also suggest grabbing a menu so you can read ingredients in the rolls on the train as it is difficult to read the ingredients on the tag as the train passes, also sushi followed by a 'T' on the menu is available upon request as a train portion (just an f.y.i) . Overall experience has been up and down lately, there are good days and there are bad/off days. Our most recent visit wasn't very great, in between lunch and dinner, hardly any of the sushi was labeled on the train so it was a guessing game on what ypu were getting (the sushi chefs were busy prepping for dinner so they werent available to ask what each roll was) the waitresses weren't in yet and the guys serving our table just aren't very warm and not very helpful, that and we ordered two rolls from the menu and it took 10-15 mins for one roll to show up and the other roll we thought would never come (almost 30 mins and it was slightly different than described on the menu ( not sure if we will continue visiting since it has been so hit and miss lately).Although I never considered it a top contender for best sushi in town, for the variety and price it was good, it sucks to see a place we ( my wife and I ) enjoyed fall short of expectations set by...

It hurts to write a negative review about a place we really wanted to like, but our experience here was not good. My wife and I sat at the bar and were greeted by a waitress (who took our drink order) and then a second waiter who explained the system to us. The both told us if we wanted to order something specific to let someone know, but we never saw either of them again. We ate a few plates of sushi off the train, but the train was empty most of the time (see the picture). When I asked the man making sushi in front of us if I could order a Volcano Roll, he said he didn't make special orders and only made sushi for the train. My wife eventually flagged someone down and ordered a volcano roll, but it took almost 20 minutes for it to arrive. We spent 20 minutes staring at our empty glasses of water and listening to the sushi chef talking on his phone's headset, complaining about "all the construction workers" coming in for lunch and, specifically, complaining about my wife and I and mumbling things like "people think they can just tell me what kind of sushi to make." If we had not already ordered the volcano roll we would have left. Overall I would say the volcano roll was good, the "train" sushi was just okay, and the staff made sure we won't be going back.

We gave it a 4.7 out of 5. It is not the traditional quieter Japanese restaurant, closer to a good quality diner, but the staff are still very polite and attentive. They accommodated some of my son's requests very well and are all very patient, let us take our time figuring out our order and didn't rush, and kept up with drink refills. As you can see on the menu, prices are very reasonable, especially appetizers. We only spent $85 on three drinks, for appetizers which included a combo platter, five sushi rolls and a special sushi plate. In total that was 86 pieces of food and a soup with three drinks. The plating was very good here, nice and decorative with the right amount of toppings, very full, not skimpy. The roles were nice and thick too, not the thin ones or one's padded full of rice like you get me some places. Portions were cut very uniform, and the ends of the rolls were just as full as the rest, unlike some places where the end becomes thin or can be skimpy with the filling. All of the rolls we had except one had extra sauces drizzled over it. Temperatures were proper as well, with the whole foods being hot and the avocado being nice and cool. We liked it a lot and will be coming back.

I really enjoy Sushi Train whenever I’m in Tulsa! It is like kaitenzushi (conveyer belt sushi) in Japan, but they have a little train that carries the sushi around the track. Pricing is determined by the plate you pick, and the plates hang on the wall with the pricing so you know what it is. Service is friendly and accommodating. I’m not sure where they get their salmon, but it is amazing! I usually tend to go for nigiri, and out of everything I’ve tried their salmon is the best. It melts in your mouth! I know this is American sushi, but my biggest complaint is that there are WAY to many rolls with cream cheese in them. Cream cheese ruins sushi, in my opinion. I understand people like that here, but I wish there was a more even ratio between the rolls with and without so I could try some more. If there isn’t something on the train you like, you can always order off of the menu and they will make it for you! Sushi Train is definitely a go-to place.
