El Veracruz — Restaurant in Tupelo

DO NOT go to El Veracruz on North Gloster if you don't want to made feel like a CRIMINAL! We were there today on date night and ordered a pitcher of margaritas. My husband finished eating and asked for a tea to go. Since I was still eating and he wasn't offered a refill on his glass, he poured some of the to go tea on his glass. The waiter IMMIDIATELY told us that the to go cup was for the tea and not the margaritas assuming we were going to pour the rest on the to go cup??! We said he was out and needed a drink. They IMMEDIATELY stationed 2 waitresses on the empty table next to us to watch and started making rounds until we finished. I told the manager that was uncalled for and even showed them what was in the to go cup, which they charged for. I told him we were going to give them a review for the way we were treated and he just shrugged. Be...

It was nice to see tables be bussed quickly and cleaned well between customers. The level of cleanliness was above and beyond. The service was adequate, but our server had a little trouble understanding, so we went without a few things and made do with a couple of minor mistakes in our order. He was putting forth effort and was friendly, so that's worth mentioning. The food was as good as the other El Vercruz locations we have visited in and around Tupelo. The carnitas plate was a home run (the meat was meaty, not fatty), and the guacamole was fresh and light. The huevos rancheros was cooked perfectly, and the red sauce...I could eat that on just about anything. Don't be afraid to ask for the secret salsa picante, but be ready for the HEAT. We ordered Togo and received “I don’t care” in a bag. The portion sizes were much smaller than other places, the quesso is expensive and clearly watered down. Even at room temperature it is very very liquidy, the chicken in the quesadilla was bland and left in massive chunks that were not in edible pieces, it had to be shredded into bite size pieces before being eaten. The food was crammed into small containers to the point of it falling apart and we faced unwelcoming and unfriendly staff on top of that. Save your money and go...
