Los Cotijas Taco Shop — Restaurant in Tustin

After finally finding this place I was very disappointed in the food and overall experience. I ordered the taco and cheese enchilada plate. They charged me extra for carnitas meat...why? It did not indicate it was more on the menu...but that wasn't what upset me. What upset me was that when I got the food my cheese on the enchilada wasn't even melted. It was barely warm on the outside and cold shredded cheese on the inside. The sauce was also a sweet cinnamon tasting sauce. Had the cheese been melted it would have been a decent enchilada. My taco was filled with mainly lettuce, very little meat (which I paid extra for) and lacked flavor. The beans and rice where just mediocre. Nothing to rave about.

The restaurant is small and NOT air conditioned, so it was very hot and humid inside. It is not very clean either. There were flying bugs around the salsa bar that I had to shoe away.

Los Cotijas is easily missable inside the shopping center, but I decided to stop by today. Extremely clean inside, very welcoming service. Was greeted by the guy up front and held a conversation. Had to try the Fish Taco and had a Carne Asada as well. And boy can I tell you it was the best fish taco I ever had. The asada was extremely good too, but the fish was just everything you want in a fish taco. I had the 2 taco combo plate and you can tell right off the bat, the beans are homemade, the rice is homemade, even the chips. I highly recommend this place!!! After Taco Mesa raised their price on my lobster burrito significantly we found this place. Los Cotijas became my new favorite! This place is a taco shop kind of place and isn’t the fancy restaurant. Their shrimp taco isn’t street taco size - it’s large! A one shrimp taco has 5 thumb size shrimps and very satisfying. Two shrimp tacos fill me up. It’s less than $15 compared to Taco Mesa’s lobster burrito now $35 😬
