TL;DR: Their wings are bomb - try the Smackin’ flavor. Also, their catfish bites in the catfish boat dish were delicious with each bite.
We were just stationed in Twentynine Palms, and wanted to try out this inconspicuous place. They have consistently good reviews, so why not? Upon getting there, the gentleman not only greeted us, but gave us a rundown of the menu written on the wall from beginning to end - that was definitely above and beyond service.
My husband tried their eight wing combo that came with two sides, and I tried their catfish boat which consisted of catfish bites with a side of fries (can be substituted). For the wings combo, my husband tried their Smackin’ flavor, and oh my goodness…that was delicious! For the catfish dish, the cornmeal lightly coated each catfish, and was seasoned to perfection. Each bite was light and full of flavor. As for the sides, my husband enjoyed their red beans and rice and potato salad. I’ve tried their Mac and cheese and Cajun fries. To be honest, I’m not much of a side dish person, so I’m biased on my feelings towards sides.
We’ve already been back again, and we plan on continuing to come back to enjoy their food here. Can’t wait to try more of their dishes! Definitely a...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Wingin It restaurant, and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and friendly staff who made me feel right at home. The menu boasted a mouthwatering selection of dishes, but my personal favorites were the catfish, collards, Mac and cheese, and the unique twist of kool aid pickles. The catfish was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, bursting with flavor. The collards were cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of seasoning to bring out their natural taste. The Mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and oh-so-satisfying, leaving me craving for more. And the kool aid pickles? A surprising and delightful combination of sweet and tangy flavors that added a fun twist to my meal. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting. The service was top-notch, attentive, and prompt. I highly recommend Wingin It to anyone looking for a Louisiana dining experience with mouthwatering food. It's a true gem that deserves every bit of its...
Read moreVery bad food experience - never, ever order the gumbo! We both ordered the special for the night which was gumbo. Absolutely the worst gumbo we ever experienced. It was served in a small plastic bowl with a plastic top with the smallest plastic spoon ever, as if we were taking out and not dining in. There were about 5 chicken wings in the bowl and gobs and gobs of slimy chicken skin and fat. Absolutely disgusting! Only 3 tiny slices of sausage. And no shrimp or seafood. Very little rice. Having visited New Orleans and Louisiana many times, we know gumbo. Making the experience even worse was when we received the bill. They never mentioned price when ordering but charged us $28 apiece for a gumbo that had nothing but slimy chicken skin in it. Had it included the proper ingredients, one could possibly understand. But given that everything else on the menu was very reasonably priced to cheap, we assumed the gumbo would be also. And they charged us $1.50 more for drinks that the menu listed. However, best hush puppies ever! Avoid this place...
