This was my first time here, and what a lovely surprise. We were looking for a unique place, contrary to the name, Emma's hit that right. Emma's is actually Bosnian food, which I've never had. Review of the menu doesn't help much because if your not eaten Bosnian food, you'll likely need somebody to explain.
Arriving at the location, it's rather unassuming with simple decor. Walking in there was an older man sitting outside, which from his demeanor suggested he belonged there. I felt he was "grandpa" and that proved to be true. For me, that was a good sign of family ethnic food.
Sitting down, we met the lovely Emma. She's a spry 12 or 13 year old child taking orders that day. She did have some difficult describing some of the menu. The main proprietor came to our aid and described the various items of interest on the menu. We both opted for the beef "sausage" fresh bread sandwich. We added a fresh Greek salad for good measure, which was the right idea. BTW the sausage isn't really sausage in the traditional sense. It's more of a grilled, skewed hamburger meat. It's yummy! 😋
First or was the salad. It was outstanding. Fresh ingredients including feta cheese and lightly seasoned, I was in love.
Next came the Cevapi sandwich, unique looking indeed. First bite, nice, subtle flavor, excellent bread. Second bite, I add more of the sour cream and vegetable relish, delish. Note the relish tastes mostly like sweet red peppers and onions. It's yummy.
Third bite, I'm in. This food rocks. I'm sold on Bosnian Cevapi sandwiches and will definitely come back. That's always my first question, would I come again? And the answer is definitely yes.
Besides the restaurant, there is a cute little grocery store on the side. Mostly what is interesting is various sweet treats, many of which originate in Italy. Keep in mind Bosnia's geography, and that's very conceivable. We purchased a few that are yummy.
The food was 4.5 for me but you can't rate it like that. The salad was a 5.
Go enjoy, and support this lovely...
Read moreAttention Customers! Beware! Pay attention to your receipts. This food place is charging customers card processing fees. If you use your card with pin or without pin you will end up being charged card processing fee on you receipt either way. I used my card with pin. What restaurant and food place does that? It’s ridiculous! If you go there and pay with card pay attention to your receipt. I wouldn’t recommend this food place to anyone. I’m very disappointed with my last visit there. Few days ago I called a place to order food for pick up. When I got there to pick up my food it wasn’t ready yet, so while I was waiting for my food to be ready I shopped for some candies and cookies because they also have food market there. After my food was done I paid for everything together and went home. I didn’t pay attention to my receipt until I got home. When I got home I decided to take a look at receipt because the charge seemed to be high. That’s when I saw that I was charged $2.73 extra fee added to my total. So, not only that I’m disappointed and angry because of the card charge, I’m disappointed with food we got and sweets I bought. The food that I paid $40 for was disgusting. The sausages inside the food were old, dry and hard to eat. I noticed there was only 3 sausages fresh inside but the rest of them were leftovers mixed with 3 fresh sausages. I was so angry when I noticed it. Also, sweets that I bought had some awful smell when I opened it. It was dry, hard and chewy like it was expired. I looked on the package for a expiration date but there was no expiration date on it at all. So, who knows how old the food is? So, based on everything the card fees that owner charge customers, disgusting food mixed with leftovers and expired candies and cookies I bought this is one the worst experience I have ever had with any food places and restaurants. This is horrible and unbelievable. I’m totally done with this place. I would never go back to that place again and definitely I wouldn’t recommend this...
Read moreOur first time here, and our first time with Bosnian food, as with many people reviewing.
From our first step in the door, the atmosphere was casual. There was no pressure to change just because we were somewhere new, and the owner and his kids were happy to be as helpful and guiding as possible. Each of them were friendly, efficient, and made my wife and I feel super supported and genuinely cared for the entire time we were there.
All of this to not even mention the food yet, which was PHENOMENAL. I got Cevapi, which the owner was (And should be!) proud to state that the sausages I had were homemade. You truly can taste the difference. No clue if I ate it the way someone more used to that dish would, but every bite exploded with flavor. The sausages were incredible, the fluffy bread soaked up those flavors, the onions were a tasty accent, and the side sauce was just enough of the diversity of flavor to make it a truly unforgettable experience.
We also got a couple of sodas that we hadn't tried before, those were fun and tasty (Though, apparently Cockta is tastier after you've already had some of your meal). My wife got a cheese panini, which she also really enjoyed, and she ate all of it until she couldn't any more. We got to finish our meals with Baklava and another dish that was similar to a ladyfinger with syrup soaked into it. These were incredible, and a great way to complete the meal.
In addition to all of the above, their market was a really fun way to explore a culture we wouldn't normally experience, while trying new things after the restaurant, all at an extremely affordable price.
For the atmosphere, the enlightening experience, the delicious meals, and the ability to feel like part of the family, even if you are only there for lunch on a Wednesday, Emma's is a must for anyone in or around Twin Falls. I will look forward to when I get to return, and truly hope you visit to have the same experiences...
