After waiting for quite some time, I finally got to try lll Palms (3 Palms) for lunch today with a good friend of mine. I’ve seen some mixed reviews since they opened and I’ve been wanting to see for myself what it was all about.
Upon walking in, we were greeted by the hostess who showed us to our table, where we met our waitress Andrea. She ended up doing a phenomenal job throughout our visit and I loved her vibrant personality.
She quickly took our drink order and we began to go over the menu. I noticed it was their lunch menu and I honestly thought the prices seemed very fair and just about all the dishes sounded amazing to me.
She came back a few minutes later and we ordered appetizers. We chose the double smoked pork belly and the fried green tomatoes topped with crab. While waiting for those to arrive, we finally decided on our entrees.
I chose the pork chop with the peppercorn sauce and the mac & cheese. My friend ordered the seared salmon with the asparagus. Our appetizers arrived within minutes of ordering.
The pork belly was the first thing I tried and it was honestly delicious. It had a stronger smoke flavor, which I enjoyed and the glaze that it was covered in was also very good. I then tried one of the fried green tomatoes with the crab. They were sitting in some type of sauce and I’m not even sure what it was. Either way, they turned out so good. They were perfectly fried and the pieces of crab added a completely different element of flavor to the dish.
Shortly after, our entrees arrived. I jumped right into the mac & cheese first. I was somewhat relieved when I realized how good it was. I guess I’ve been let down on some mac & cheese lately, so my hopes weren’t very high. It was creamy and full of flavor and it honestly didn’t need any extra salt and pepper in my opinion. I then took a bite of the pork chop. It was a thicker cut and heavily seasoned, but not in a bad way. It was very tender and juicy all the way through and it paired so nicely with the peppercorn sauce. Add a bite of mashed potatoes to the mix and I was a happy man.
Then came my friends salmon. I knew I had to try a bite, seeing as I love some good salmon. As much as I hate to admit it, this wasn’t that salmon. It was rather dry and not very flavorful, which is something we both agreed on. The asparagus was good though lol.
We ended up ordering dessert. I got the bread pudding and he got the crème brûlée cheesecake. I got first bite of the cheesecake and I thought it was excellent. But to my disappointment, the bread pudding was covered in chocolate. Even the ice cream had chocolate in it. 4 years ago (before Covid killed a lot of food options for me) I would have absolutely loved this dessert and left no crumbs behind. Unfortunately, I hate chocolate now and I’ll take the blame for not asking for a dessert menu to see if it had chocolate on it before ordering.
I would like to add that our waitress noticed that I only took 1 bite and she asked why. I briefly explained my chocolate dilemma and she was very quick to offer to remove it from the ticket. She even recommended ordering it without the chocolate drizzle and also getting regular vanilla ice cream next time. I really appreciated her willingness to fix the situation, although it wasn’t her fault at all.
One thing that really caught my eye was the interior design and their overall choice of materials used inside the restaurant. I really love the way everything just came together so nicely. They even bagged my leftovers and brought it out on a nice little stand. It was unique and something I’ve never seen implemented in a restaurant before.
Overall, I’d still recommend trying lll Palms, seeing as I still had a...
Read moreWhen you have to put ”upscale” in your definition of your business a flag should wave in your face. I suppose in this case it means a new building because the quality of food and service is anything but upscale. The prices are “Upscale” but the food is about as far from upscale as the North is from the South.
Couldn’t get reservations at our usual places due to Xmas parties and was looking to take mother in law for her 80th Birthday and what a dismal letdown! From the beginning the service sucked when you waited for girl to get off her heated conversation as you waited to be seated. First steak house in my life that serves NO BREAD and butter to begin with and oh after asking we were looked at funny but brought some pieces of fried dough resembling cheap toast. Plus we got charged for it! You eat your salad while wondering when you would be asked what you’re having. Finally got it after looking for your waitress who had gotten lost. I could go on and on but suffice to say that if you’re looking for a decent restaurant that serves good steak try the following: Four Winds, Kiefersol, Prime One or Dakotas. If they’re packed go and get a Wendy’s roast beef but avoid “Wilted Palms”! Best they get out of the restaurant business. But no worry they won’t last long!! Oh and by the way if you’re celebrating a Birthday they might even bring you over a dessert tray so your 80 year old mother in law could smile with the candle being lit on the complimentary cupcake. There’s two things you don’t ever forget in life! One is those who are bankers and mishandle your money and the places that pretend to be an “upscale” restaurant but are only overpriced eating joints!! If I’m in Tyler Tx with more restaurants that Tx has gophers, I do believe that I would be smart enough to check my competition out and try to copy the things that make them truly”upscale”! That is number 1. Excellent food 2. Excellent Service. Forget the white table cloths that truly disguise the fact that you’re getting ready to...
Read moreI hate this!! Expecting amazing and getting less than you could ever imagine is a real bummer!! For starters , reservation for Valentine’s made many weeks in advance. We arrive and are sat at out table in what appears to be an overflow room or something , I just don’t understand. Four walls and plastic top tables with table cloths attempting to hide them. I didn’t realize how less than amazing this room was until I walked from our table , across the patio ( uncovered in the rain) to the restroom which is OF COURSE located in the real restaurant, Great atmosphere in the place I thought we were having dinner, But someone decided the “ pool house” would serve as an additional dining area BAD CALL. very bad call Did I mention the “special valentines menu”(the ribeye normally $60, on the special menu was $106, wow that is special ) Service was pretty good. The staff was trying their best but what should I expect when the server had to go from our table , across the outdoor patio in the rain, thru the real restaurant , back outside, across the patio , thru a sliding glass door that kept getting shut so the cold and wet didn’t get in. ( try opening a huge sliding glass door with full hands of food and drinks, yes ummm no! I was just completely disappointed in the atmosphere /decor or complete lack of in the pool house that someone decided to call a dining room. Then again when you get put in the outside pool house ( a server said it was the patio cabana) what should I really expect?
Well I will end it here. $400 bucks for dinner for two !! This was s NOT IT! Sucks. I wanted to love it but left shocked and sad that lll palms was not a place I will probably ever visit again Maybe if you know someone and actually get to sit in the restaurant it would have been great. This was a...
