MalaTown 自选麻辣烫 — Restaurant in Union City

I usually come here with my family for lunch almost every week and we have a good time. But today I had a bad experience here and don’t want to come back.

Usually the staff here is friendly and helpful. They welcome customers and help them with patience. Today 6/29, around 2:40pm to 3pm, we came here for a late lunch with my baby. The music here is always a bit loud and today my baby seems a bit anxious with such a high volume of music. So I asked the staff (a nice young lady who can speak mandarin) if she can help turn down the music just a little bit. Soon when I started eating, I noticed that the staff I just talked to, and another staff (I don’t know her name 她不是中国人，态度非常讨厌）, they discussed about my request and I heard the second staff (btw she’s chewing gum all time) said WHICH BABY, WHY TURNING DOWN THE MUSIC, meanwhile looked at me with an unfriendly face. This is super weird and impolite, rude, does she know that actually I can hear what she said? So I looked back and asked WHAT from my seat.

She looked at me with mean face even when she walked down to my next tables for cleaning. This definitely ruined my mood. I hope someday when she has a baby she can understand how rude she is treating a mom with a...

This was my first time visiting, and unfortunately, the experience wasn’t great. I saw the sign that said $15, but I didn’t realize it was $15 per pound. When I walked in, no one greeted me or explained how the process worked. I had no idea the food was priced by weight, and I wish someone had taken a moment to explain the system, especially for first-time visitors.

When I got to the cashier, they weighed my food and sent it to the kitchen without telling me the total cost. I was really shocked by the final amount. I believe the whole experience could’ve been better with clearer communication. For example, having a scale at each station would help customers keep track of their portion sizes and cost in real time, instead of being surprised at checkout.
