I was really looking forward to experiencing authentic dim sum, but unfortunately, this visit left me quite disappointed.
First, the tea service was confusing and off-putting. We were initially served a pot of chrysanthemum tea that looked like leftover tea dregs — it was filled with broken petals, and we couldn’t tell whether it was freshly made or someone else’s leftovers. When we asked to change it to Tieguanyin, they brought jasmine tea instead. The mismatch was puzzling and didn’t feel respectful of our request.
Secondly, we found a strand of hair on one of the beef meatballs after a server helped us cut it. I have curly hair, and this was straight — clearly not mine. Unfortunately, the staff was extremely busy and we couldn’t find anyone to report it to, which made the situation worse.
Another frustrating part was the service style. Dishes were placed at the edge of our table, and we had to arrange them ourselves. The steamers were wet and greasy, and I really didn’t want to touch them with my bare hands. Even the stir-fried rice noodles with beef came on a very heavy plate, and we had to serve it ourselves as well.
The tea was served incorrectly twice, and we had to handle our own food despite paying an 18% mandatory service fee — that felt very unfair. Overall, this was not the kind of experience I expected from a dim sum restaurant. I sincerely hope the service can be improved for...
Read morerecently stopped by with my family and i for dim sum and enjoyed the food. the overall ambiance id say is very casual and comforting (like home-y vibes) - but the options on the menu are definitely not as extensive as some other spots may be - there were options that ive never heard of but otherwise they mainly had more traditional dish options. they, however, did have a very similar system to most dim sum spots - which is a paper menu in which you choose the stuff you'd like to order with a pen and then you submit it to their staff to be placed.
the flavor of the food was pretty good and most of the dishes we've tried would be something we'd ordered again (listed below)! Stuffed Fried Dough Rice Noodle Roll - pricing uncertain as it's not on their menu through the website but was on their paper menu
tips: lots of parking available lots of stores you can shop at before or after (a market and daiso are in the same plaza along with bakery options and more) can fit large parties (great for family + kids - lunch and dinner) relatively affordable for the amount of food we got (about $90 for 5 adults and please note they add in...
Read moreGolden Bay Seafood Harbor (Guhm Hoy wahn in Cantonese) is a solid choice for those looking for a more upscale Chinese dining experience at a fairly reasonable price. This is a good restaurant.
Part of a restaurant group, Golden Bay is located next to Marina Supermarket in Union City. We went there for dinner.
For parties of 5 to 7 people, consider the "half portion" of the full set menu. I dont think it is advertised, you may have to ask.
For about $250, you get a very nice seafood dinner, including ginger lobster, small abalone, steamed fish, prawns and scallops, seafood soup, and so on. Dinner included their cold appetizer plate and stir-fried beef with mushrooms. Even the fried rice had scallops in it. The only complaint was the steamed fish as it was quite fishy.
Almost everything we had was well prepared, and portions were quite generous given what was being served
Service was polite and low-key. They were not snobby or haughty, unlike at some other higher chinese restaurants.
The atmosphere within the restaurant is relaxed. The space is large and quiet enough for conversation. It almost makes you want to linger, and that's how restaurants should be
There is plenty of parking and the parking spaces are wide.
I recommend this restaurant. Consider going there with family or a small...
