This is my first time visiting. My daughter recommended this place to me. I am guessing they recently renovated the place and it looks very nice. A bit different from what you see in Google pictures.
The service was good. The biggest problem is that the waitress could not speak English. After 5 min of back and forth with sign language, and writing on the phone, finally, one person came from the inside. I am guessing she was the owner. She too was not able to speak English properly but was better than the first. Anyways, eventually we placed order for 2 dishes. Whew, it took 10 min. At one point, we wanted to just walk out without ordering. Nice people though.
The food was good. I would not say great, but it was GOOD. We ordered 1 Yellow eel and 1 Goose Grain. Both were Signature dishes according to the menu. You can see the photos attached. The one with Yellow stuff on top is Yellow eel. We added the special sauce they provided along with the dish, which added flavor. Since the food was served in a clay pot, it kept the food hot/warm until we finished it.
Overall, we liked the experience and food, other than the trouble in...
Read moreBest clay pot rice I've ever had in my life. Wait times can get long, especially on weekends so we aim to get in at opening time to skip the line. Each clay pot rice is seasoned differently and tastes unique so it's not just putting different meats with the same sauce. The waxed meats are also delicious. Best part are the crispy rice bits; make sure to scrape all the rice off the bottom of the clay pot so it doesn't burn. Some favourites: frog legs, chinese sausage with pork ribs (actually with a mix of waxed meats), goose grains. We've tried almost all and like most but these are our family's favourites. Goose grains is diced goose meat and is popular with kids cos it's boneless. Eel was probably good but the visual was a bit scary. Salted chicken was ok but a little boring for me. Maybe salted chicken with chinese sausage would be better. I didn't really like the regular chicken cos the seasoning is heavier on the cooking wine than what I'm used to. The salted fish was the worst. It was in a large chunk with skin on and was really fishy. If it'd been fried and crumbled over the rice, it might taste better. We usually also get pea sprouts in broth for veg. Their chilli sauce is good as...
Read moreThere's not many clay pot rice places around the area, but this is a pretty solid one. One of my favorite ones was The Chinese sausage one! It's got a good amount of meat and they did a good job not making the rice stick onto the pot too much which can be easily done if over cooked. There is also congee as well as yu choy for order as well if you're not interested in the main dishes. They also starred out with some pickled vegetables which was a nice touch. I recommend where you're eating a clay pot that You share with two people for the regular size as you might have leftovers if you're eating by yourself, Just ordering the bigger size will just add extra leftovers or if you have four or six people. The ambiance is also pretty nice too with a very large painting on one of the walls and decorative ceiling tiles! The furniture and tables don't look to have too much wear and they look pretty recent too. Waiters were mostly focused on cleaning up after a table, but they did refill water when stopped for and asked. Overall, it's just a solid place to get this type of dish with not too much fuss...
