My boyfriend and I are regular customers, the last two times we have been there I have been disappointed , my first disappointment was the brown gravy not good very very salty this was about a month and a half ago, today we went to lunch I ordered the pepper jack cheeseburger with fries my complaint with my food today was with my burger never ever serve shredded lettuce on a burger shredded lettuce does not belong on a burger I have worked in food service since I was 20 years old I am now 60 there was way too much sauce on my burger I had to take the shredded lettuce off and then take the sauce off and my burger was put together upside down everything was on the bottom bun when you make a burger you use leaf lettuce or romaine leaf then you put the tomatoes on the onions and the pickles I don't know what kind of sauce it was it was awful there was no mustard after I took whatever kind of sauce that was on the burger it was good, burger was cooked to perfection, the bun he advavmice toasty edge, the fries you might consider wanting to cut the fries in half that's just way too many fries there's enough fries on one order to feed two to three people and they are shoe string fries the worst kind of fries possible a lot of people do not like shoe string fries you have to make your customers happy if a customer is not happy they will not return the other complaint I have on today's visit I noticed one of the waitresses she was a little on the heavy set side she had dark auburn red hair she was on the phone when she got off the phone she proceeded to start messing with her hair she was running her hands through her hair and then she took her arm and was rubbing her nose she never washed her hands for that reason right there might not return, that is so unsanitary you don't run your hands through your hair and then rub your nose with your arm and then pick food up and take it to a table, I could believe she done that, to me that is disgusting, and makes me NOT want to return. Our waitress was wonderful,we got excellent service, prices are very reasonable, very clean restaurant, may I suggest putting on your menu onion rings and tater tots? I also ordered a cup of potato soup, it was very very good. All I am asking is that you please talk to that one waitress about running her hands through her hair and then rubbing her nose with her arm and then reaching up there grabbing customers plates and serving food if it inspector or a mystery shopper came in there or somebody from the health department and seen that they would probably shut your place down and I would not want to see that happen you guys do have really...
Read moreI can't rate the food since we left before ordering. My partner and I have seen many posts about Jean's Cottage and were really looking forward to a good meal. My partner has a marked service dog and due to the service dogs age of 22 she has a 6 month old service dog in training who we had just recently rescued and are working on his public interactions to start with. We went to the restaurant and we asked to sit on the patio as it was a nice evening but it was closed. When we walked in with the two small dogs everyone looked at us and watched all the way till we got to our table. No one asked a word about the dog's. The ADA allows for 2 questions, 1. Is that a service dog? 2. What service do they provide? Neither question was asked when we came in. Once seated and received our drinks a man comes out from the back up to us and is looking concerned we were there. Just at that moment the service dog in training jumped up to the seat and my partner was working on getting him back to the floor under the table. I told the man yes we have a service dog and a new service dog in training. He then asked if we had a crate to put them in? Umm, NO as we are not legally required to crate while we are out. The service dog has to be able to get to it's handler if they need to help them. The man then asked us if we fed the dogs from the table. Absolutely not! We even brought the dogs water bowl for them as it was warm and we take care of our dog's when we are out with them. We decided that with the man's attitude that we would be leaving and not eating there. We paid for the one soda and left. The restaurant staff need to learn service dog and ADA laws. Service dog's help there handlers in many ways and not all disabilities are visible and size doesn't matter in service dog size. Big dog's and little dog's along with miniature horses can be service animals. All other animals can be emotional support animal's and in general ESA's are not...
Read moreMy wife and I visited Jean's Cottage Inn for the first time yesterday on a recommendation from my father-in-law. We drove up from the Tri-Cities (about 70 miles) just to eat dinner here, and I was not disappointed. The restaurant has a long history in Union Gap / Yakima, having opened in 1962. The ambiance is somewhere between classic diner and rustic retreat. If you are looking for fancy, this is not the place for you, but if you are looking for an outstanding steak, great home fries, and friendly service, give Jean's a try. The place is very popular with the locals, and now I know why. I had the boneless rib-eye with hash browns. The portions were generous, and my steak was the most tender, most flavorful steak I've had in a long time, including steaks I've had recently at venues you might consider more up-scale. Actually, I'm not sure I've ever had a better steak. We will definitely be back. In particular I'm looking forward to trying out their...
