Culebra Cafe — Restaurant in Universal City

My experience with Culebra Cafe was less than I was originally expecting - I intended to get a full lunch there, but due to a misunderstanding at the drive-thru, I ended up only scoring one taco. It was a barbacoa taco - after all, the sign in front gives the barbacoa top billing. The barbacoa was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and they added some only slightly-cooked vegetables, providing some nice and unexpected contrast for the soft pork. I didn't care for how much fat ended up in my taco - it left a puddle in the aluminum foil in which my taco was wrapped. Still tasted good, though.

Horrible mgmt with long wait for mediocre Mexican food. Overweight middle-aged Mexican lady with painted on eyebrows apparently running the show there and failing at customer retention. I waited 15+ minutes in the drive-thru for 3 tacos with only 1 truck in front of me. Lobby was not busy either. I was stuck inbetween 2 vehicles with no way of opting out the drive thru. When I called to speak with the MOD I explained my situation and if she could comp 1 taco for the inconvenience. She agreed. To my dismay when it was finally my turn she totally reneged on what she had agreed on. No one should have to wait that long only to receive lip service from a not so helpful manager👎. This was my first time ordering food from the Cafe, i always drove by and never tried them. Now I will admit that the taste of the tacos and Tamales are very, very delicious! I obviously did not realize what I was missing out on. I ordered my food to go and wish I had dined in just to compliment them on the savory Tamales.

The young lady who took my order was very polite and responsive to my order and questions. Although she ordered me more Tacos than what I asked for, they were awesome in taste and did not regret paying for the extra order.
