On Jan 11th my cuzzin, GF, and myself went to eat here. Worst service, I have eaten here before and did a previous review that was good. Unfortunately I have to change that review. There service is bad. We went at 4:30pm got seated around 5pm and from there on went down hill. Our server (thin Asian guy with glasses, looking like Harry Potter) took are drinks order, (No fountain drinks on the menu, had to ask them what they have) he first acted like all they had was teas and stuff, I had to ask him specifically for sodas and fountain drinks for him to say yeah we have that too. Trying force me to buy a 6$ Boba tea with diner acting like that's all you have is NOT cool. I ordered lemonade, and got water with a hint of lemon. I told him that, and instead of sayiing "sorry about that, let me get you another" all I got was "Oh" and then he took it out of my hand. I then watched him go into the back, grab a cup for himself and try the lemonade. He then had a girl with glasses try the lemonade, then she took a small container and took it to the another guy to try it. I sat there for a good while with nothing to drink. When he did finally give me another lemonade, he handed it to me and said "Here" and then walked off. Didn't bother to see if that was good, didn't ask me if there was something else I might want to drink if that lemonade was bad. Just walked off .... ........ The drink still tastes like water, I had the others at my table try it, and they all agreed it was water with a couple drops of lemon. The machine needs to be recalibrated to the proper mixture. He never did ask me if the drink was ok. Now the food, first my cuzzins fried rice, came out first. After 10 min, then mine came out, after another 10 min, the Hers came out. It would be really nice to eat our food together. Since we did come together. I waited to eat my food when she got hers, thinking it must not be that far behind. My lemon chicken was cold by the time hers came out. Finally when we all had our food and eating together, we had some guy, chatting with who I think is the bus boy pushing a cart reach over us and grab plates and stuff we were not using while we are still eating. He didn't ask if he could take those off the table for us or anything, just reached right over us while laughing and talking to some other guy. Finally I had to ask them to remove the lemonade charge from the bill, and then we left. I still tipped, but not what it would have been for some actual good service.
(Original review.) had their chili tofu. A very healthy portion of tofu. It has two chili peppers next to the name. I would say they're spicy level is accurate. It wasn't overly spicy. But had a great flavor. Huge menu. So many options and things to choose from. My cousin had V3 fried tofu. He said that it was very good in flavor and crispiness. The restaurants overall cleanliness was very nice. It was very busy. But the staff did their best to keep up with everything. Very friendly server. It was very fun to watch the cooks through the giant fish bowl window. Watching them make the noodles and flip around dough was very entertaining. Definitely a great restaurant. I had the boba tea coffee mocha. Definitely a great deal. The service is fast...
Read moreA friend holds Corner 17 in high regard so I finally got around to checking it out. I personally think the loop is pretty lame, so I was skeptical at first, but they blew all expectations out of the water.
Upon entering you're greeted with an energetic full staff. The atmosphere is vibrant, customers are pouring in and out, and everyone seems pleased with their experience. Even with how busy it was I was seated promptly right next to the kitchen where you can watch them make the noodles. There is a bit of a draft and only 2 single person bathrooms, but considering the quality of food and service it's only a small hiccup.
There is a very large selection of different tea drinks. Many of which I didn't even know could be a thing. I opted for the, "Very berry cheese oolong tea" I know how weird that sounds but the cheese is more like a cream. It was pretty sugary, which is probably just me since I usually only drink water, but very good and a unique drink worth trying.
Up next came the crab rangoon and handmade wonton with chili sauce. The rangoons were similar to your standard Chinese restaurant. Personally I like them to be more on the crab and less on the cream cheese side of things but they were still satisfying. What really stood out were the handmade wonton. Oh my God were these good! The chili sauce is just the right amount of heat where you taste it but it doesn't over power the other flavors.
They're known for their ramen, but I took a simpler route and went with the, "Three Spoon Chicken" The chicken was tender and flavorful with a crisp crust, which paired nicely with the white rice.
I was on the fence between 4/5⭐ The rangoons were basic, but not bad, and I needed to keep my jacket on. The wantons were incredible and the main course was tasty. The tea was odd, but unique, and I'm happy I tried it. Other teas on the menu sounded really good. What tipped the scale was the upbeat energy and great staff. They were fast and friendly, checking up pretty consistently, and very informative of the entire lengthy menu. All and all I enjoyed my experience and plan on making more trips back since there were so many other options I would like to try.
P.S. There are pictures for almost everything on the menu which I find to be incredibly helpful for deciding what...
Read moreI’ve been here at least 10 times, I have to say the food is pretty average. Chinese food in NYC is vastly superior. For example, a simple dish like stir fried hand pulled noodles tasted amazing in NYC, but here, it has absolute no flavor. There is no wok hei (for all of their dishes as well) and I believe it’s only flavored by oyster sauce. The noodles just taste like boiled/blanched ingredients and sauce stir fried together for a couple seconds. The noodle soup here is pretty bland as well. I wouldn’t bother with the homemade noodles here. The Dandan noodles aren’t so great either. Dandan noodles at China Bistro in the Pan Asian Market is really good in comparison to corner 17s.
My favorite items are the mala stir fry (only because it’s pretty spicy), wonton soup, chili oil wonton, and their pan fried dumplings (favorite is original and the beet one). The cold chili noodles are pretty good as well. Other dishes that are tasty time to time are deep fried pork rib, sweet and sour fish, egg rolls, and salt n pepper shrimp. These are all fried dishes so I feel like you cant really go wrong.
Some other dishes that I feel let down by are: mapo tofu and black bean pork rib. The flavor of those two dishes are just not there and I don’t like how they use the same pork rib from the noodle soup since it’s way too tender. I can say the same about many other dishes but there’s too many to talk about.
The sticky rice Shumai are kind of odd and I wish they would just make normal pork/shrimp Shumai. The bao buns are ok, I just prefer Wei Hongs bao buns more for example.
The chili flake oil at the table is pretty good in flavor but not too spicy. Only complaint is that they do not allow you to take it Togo (they only give the oil with out the flakes togo)
The bubble tea is ok/decent, but not amazing. I feel like the quality of ingredients is somewhat lacking when considering the price point. (I run a bubble tea shop) I feel like the milk powder they use is odd because all of the milky drinks have a weird thick flavor.
All in all, I’ll go back sometimes, but it’s not something I crave a lot because a lot of...
