Mi Ranchito — Restaurant in University City

I have now been to Mi Ranchito 3 times & don't plan on stopping visiting anytime soon. This establishment came highly recommended by my Cousin who is a regular & said that everything on their menu was good. I checked out their menu online & immediately noticed that the menu continued going on & on & on. I started wondering how many cooks does this place have in the Kitchen?? After investigating the menu & coming to the conclusion that I just couldn't order 1 item with sooo many items that I liked & was curious to try, so on my 1st visit I ordered the "Ultimate Nachos" & had Chorizo added & I ordered a Queso Birria & Chips & Queso. All of my items were outstanding!!! The Nachos were some of the best that I have had. The Queso Birria was exceptional!!! The meat was soooo tender & the broth complimented it perfectly. The flavor was out of this world!! Their Queso Sauce was truly Liquid Gold(Some of the best Queso Sauce that I have had!!). Everything was portioned well & very filling, they don't skimp on portion sizes. The atmosphere had a authenticity to it that U don't get in some Mexican Restaurants. It was a warm & inviting atmosphere, but it also had a rustic-old world feel to it. If U closed ur eyes, U might actually feel like U were transported to some part of Mexico 🇲🇽. On my 2nd visit I decided to get the Nachos that had Shrimp in them & I added Chorizo & I ordered the Queso Birria & Chips & Queso also. The Nachos with Shrimp are now my Go To Nachos. If U ever have a craving for Nachos, these are the Nachos to get period!!! U can really taste the "Made From Scratch" flavor in all of their dishes. I have not been able to pull myself away from the Nachos or the Queso Birria & definitely not the Liquid Gold Queso Sauce, but their are a few more items on the menu that I eventually plan on trying. My Mother is absolutely addicted to their Shrimp Soup & they don't put lil' baby Shrimp in it, they are nice size Shrimp & plenty of them. My Cousin was speaking truth when she told me that I couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu. For the portions that U receive their items are fairly priced. My only complaint would be that they don't have a Door Dash or Grub Hub that delivers to my location. If U are a Mexican food fan of authentic, made from scratch items, that has a vast menu, then U need to put Mi Ranchito on ur radar & try them. U won't be...

Best Tex-Mex in the city!

I love that everyone gets their own saucer to pour their salsa in. I think this is really clever and is not often seen.

I came with three guests that had never been here before and everyone left very happy.

We had a pitcher of frozen margaritas, a mezcal margarita, and some beers.

I got the Enchiladas Verdes with mixed vegetables inside instead of chicken. I really love and appreciate that the servers and kitchen staff are able to accommodate vegetarian!! Sometimes you can only find beans and cheese options, which is boring.

One of our guests got the Burrito Colorado and he said it was very authentic and the best he’s ever had. He loved how fresh the pico was and the slight kick of heat in the dish. His wife really loved her dish too (I can’t remember what she ate). They were able to accommodate her requests and modifications no problem. She said the frozen peach margarita was really great also!

My partner got the Grande Special that practically had one of everything on the menu. He enjoyed trying all the dishes and really loved the flavors.

Our waitress was so kind and attentive. We were seated right away and never felt rushed. She also never made us feel weird for hanging out for a while having drinks after the meal.

I wish there was some hot sauce or homemade hot sauce on the table. I personally like a bit of kick that I felt was lacking but it didn’t stop me from eating my food. I’m sure I could have asked but it wasn’t that...

I’ve eaten here many times over the past 10 years with no issue And have written a positive review in the past. However, recent staff and management changes over the past months have caused me to give zero stars. A friend and I ordered the same food and while hers was seasoned and flavorful mine was bland and I didn’t take more than 2 bites. I didn’t eat or finish the food and wasn’t interested in a new order so we asked to have the item taken off our bill. Again, the food was not touched or picked over, it looked like a fresh untouched plate of food with only one small corner eaten. We asked to speak with the manager. The manager came to the table without introducing herself or even apologizing that the food wasn’t up to par. Instead she was rude and giving an obvious attitude saying nothing was wrong with the food and that both plates were cooked together since we ordered the same thing. We said we understood that but they did not taste the same and the food was not eaten and we again asked to please take it off of our bill, to which she continued disagreeing and talking about food prep while she reached over us snatching plates in an agitated manner. I’ve never experienced such customer service especially since neither my friend nor myself were rude in any way while addressing our issue with my food.
