Bliss Small Batch Creamery — Restaurant in University Place

When I went in today, I had just finished dinner and was planning on having a small ice cream for my way home. I do not treat myself to desserts often. When I entered, the employee that was getting the icecream for me was very polite. He helped get what I needed. Everyone else stood around as he was working, which I think is completely unfair. I saw more than 4 people behind the counter and only one was working. Once I paid for my overly priced icecream, one my way home, I noticed that the icecream was melting offly fast. You could say that perhaps the sun was melting it, but the sun was not out and it was barely 70 degrees outside. Needless to say, and icecream shop shouldn't be open around 6pm-7pm if they won't serve icecream that holds for less than ten seconds. For the few icecream places (or parlors) that I've been to in the PNW, this is by far the worst. All the 5 star ratings for this place was misleading. Waste...

Bliss - you may want to consider extending hours in the summer. Our family is a big fan and visit the UP location frequently. After finishing a birthday dinner earlier than expected, we decided to stop for ice cream rather than getting dessert at the restaurant. Arrived 15min. before the posted close time and while waiting, employee said “I love being bum-rushed 8 minutes before close.” The open sign had already been turned off and they told another customer they were out of waffle cones because the waffle irons had already been cleaned. On top of that, The double scoop serving was significantly smaller than usual. Several more people entered as we left 5 minutes before close. I understand getting busy before close stinks, but if you advertise to be open until 8p, expect to have business until then - or better yet, consider extending if it’s feasible. Very good ice cream and very friendly staff! I have been waiting for this location to open for several months and I was excited to try it for the first time last week. The staff were very friendly and helpful in giving suggestions and information about the ice cream, lots of dairy free options! While the prices aren't great they are basically the same as other specialty ice cream shops like ice cream social. We tried several of Bliss' flavors including their Cookie Monster one, no complaints, the flavors were lights and well-balanced. The only thing I had trouble with was picking which flavor, there are so many available it was a little bit overwhelming.
