Coldwell Banker Bain Tacoma — Local services in University Place

We are first-time home buyers and we chose Coldwell Banker Bain because the realtor, Barbara, seemed very nice and educated. Everything was going pretty well until a few months after we bought the house.

I received several letters from the Health Department telling me that my soil is contaminated with lead and arsenic and they did a test when the previous owner lived here. I was very concerned since I have a serious autoimmune disorder and I have to be careful around heavy metals. I am also a gardener and grow a lot of my own food in the summer. They showed me the proof that the soil was tested and the owner knew about it.

I was very confused about why my realtor or the owner's realtor did not tell me about the contamination. It was not disclosed in any of the paperwork. We received the records from the health department. My realtor referred me to the Coldwell Banker attorney (which I thought was very odd). The realty manager's excuse was "Well, what do you expect me to do? We are not environmental scientists."

After the conversation ended badly with the manager, I called the EPA, the Dept of Ecology, and a few other places. Every person that I talked to said that my realtor should have disclosed that information- realtors in the North Tacoma area know about the lead and arsenic. My significant other and I are devastated that our first time buying a home turned into a disaster.
