Dos Mundos Kitchen — Restaurant in Upland

My mother and I finally made it here for lunch earlier this week. Octavio was our host and server. With further conversation we learned he is part-owner or owner of this restaurant. He is kind, prompt, knowledgeable, and seeks feedback on the quality of the food. My mother ordered the salmon lunch special ($13.99 I believe). As you can see from the photo, it is a large meal, especially for the low price of the lunch special. She enjoyed it greatly and the salmon had no fishy smell or taste which is sometimes an issue with salmon. I ordered the shrimp cocktail which was $21 I believe. Compared to other shrimp cocktails in the area, this is larger, making it less costly for the spice of it. The quality of seafood and veggies was really fresh. They do serve beer and mimosas currently. They are awaiting the approval of their liquor license, and Octavio said they will be building a large bar in the restaurant. This place was recommended to me and finally went for lunch. My fiancé had their chicken fried steak and it was the worst he had and that says a lot since the dish is his absolute favorite and needs to taste it wherever it is served. My ceviche Mixto was not cooked in lemon and was lacking flavor, shrimp was raw and the serving was small which was disappointing for the price. I found a strand of hair in my food and I informed the waitress and when it was time to pay she didn’t charge me which was nice. The restaurant was outdated from the interior, so if you want to go on a special date with your partner I would not recommend this place, but best for a casual outing. Went a few weeks ago, food was ok. Most likely we will not return. Too pricey for plain food. Service was average, not sure if they were still in practice mode but trying to be fair. I ordered a lot because we wanted to really try food. The enchilada had way to much cheese, I did tell the man who came around and asked for feedback. I ordered guacamole and it came with 6 chips and he told me you have to request more chips, weird. Big bowl of guac and no chips. Beans were ok.
