Visited here for the first time tonight, busy Sat night. I suggest reservations but we were lucky enough to be seated at a bar table. Atmosphere is cozy and eclectic, some very cool features. Restaurant feels opens and airy even though it's not a huge space. Huge huge drink menu with over 100 kinds of tequila, many local beers which is always a nice touch. Small menu but that's a good thing, they can concentrate on a few select dishes. Best tortilla chips I've ever had, seems like something so simple but few places get the balance right. For a busy Sat night our food arrived quickly. We had Tacos and Enchiladas, the pork in the tacos was some of the best I've had but I didn't care for the spicy Verde salsa although that's a personal preference, it was still very good. The enchiladas were incredible, my hubby is part Mexican and grew up eating food grandmother's homemade enchiladas and he enjoyed them very much as did I. Price point i found was very reasonable esp considering the portion size, we both left full, both had a drink, salsa and chips and 1 dessert and Bill was $70. You can view the kitchen from your table and it was very impressive to see such a well orchestrated kitchen, small but clean and I have worked in kitchens so I was totally impressed to see the care that went into each plate and thankfully how clean it was. My one and only issue was the service, our server Seth was not very attentive. Now if I saw him running around tending to his tables and he was busy, I would've totally understood that however every time I looked back he was talking with 2 to 3 other servers in the corner. We waited a very long time for him to come back, plates on the other side is the table, he saw me multiple times look at him but didn't bother. I'm a reasonable person and absolutely understand if he was busy but he had plenty of time to shoot the breeze while we sat and sat with empty drinks waiting for him to come back. I think we must've waited 20 min after we were done eating. Then another 10 for him to come back for the check. He was polite and friendly but had he been remotely attentive, he would've gotten more then 20%. Sorry Seth, you're in the service industry and unless you're actually busy you should at the very least check on your tables. I'm not a Karen either, I'm the easiest person to please so just helpful advice, you have what can't be taught so hopefully this will be improved upon. We'll be back soon since the food was so amazing and we remain hopeful the service will be better. I really love the decor and want one of their very cool t shirts so I'm coming back for the food and the shirt.... oh and the Churros are...
Read moreI made reservations for my 33rd wedding anniversary and even made the note when making the 7 PM reservation it was our anniversary and we would like a cozy table for 2 please. I will also say the reservations were wide open 4 days prior Saturday Night. We arrived 15 minutes earlier I dropped my wife off at the door and when I went inside she was at the bar waiting on our table, and my wife exclaimed the hostes was a little rude when she checked in. I don't drink but okay and the bar isn't a very special place nothing much to see or keep you pre occupied or entertained. At 7:05 I went back to the desk to ask about our reservation and was told the table hadn't cleared yet and as soon as it did they would seat us. Unfortunately for them where we were seated at the bar I could see open tables and wondered why we were waiting. I had noted parties come in and seated immediately but I didn't inquire as to why. Once they called on us the table were sat at had been open the entire time as we sat at the bar 25 minutes. Note I made a requested when making the reservation a nice cozy table for two and we were sat at a loud table for 4. The atmosphere at the table was okay but loud I faced the wall of Sugar Skulls that I had to look up in my phone what they were. The appetizer we choose Calamari was good but rather small. No complementary chips were served and we ordered quickly. The entrees were good not great and we decided not to have desert. I paid with Gift Cards that they made me sign a receipt as if they were stolen perhaps I should ask my wonderful children how they came upon them (sarcasim). Never once was my anniversary or the screw up with my reservation made mention of and it was most definitely a bad memory.
I shared the experience with a friend today and they had shared an experience friends of theirs had at Torre just last year with an anniversary that went poorly to say the least. I asked if they wrote a review I was told they did not they just won't go back there are other places to drop $150 to $200 for a nicer time
I will make one last comment my wife is Latina and we enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine and we refuse to drive into Philadelphia with the crime and hatred in this city so we choose locally and perhaps it wasn't such a...
Read moreHorrible Experience and will not be back. Yesterday was my wedding, and we decided to celebrate at Torre. I made a reservation for nine people and even called the day before to confirm everything was still in place. However, upon our arrival, the staff seemed confused about the situation. Their actions indicated that our reservation was either missing from their system or they had overlooked it. Consequently, our table was not prepared. They attempted to combine two small tables in the back to accommodate our large group, but that arrangement wouldn’t suffice given the three large men in my wedding party, as I didn't want to be cramped next to anyone else. We informed them that this setup wouldn’t work for us. They then said, "Oh no, our mistake, you're actually upstairs. I'll check on the table now." Once again, we noticed there was no table for us; they were simply combining two larger tables. Eventually, the manager, who I later learned was in charge, entered without saying a word. Finally, they seated us at the table. To sum up the rest of my wedding dinner: we discovered mouse droppings in the water we received, the food was unappetizing, and the drinks lacked any noticeable alcohol content. My sister informed the waitress that it was my wedding and requested churros for a small dessert. It was evident how special this day was meant to be. To make matters worse, the manager stormed upstairs, angrily swung a chair into the table next to us, creating a loud noise, and then hurried off into the back. This incident occurred in front of numerous customers, all of whom were equally taken back by her behavior, including the staff. I brought this to the attention of the waitress and discovered her name was Emily, and she held the position of manager. It's worth mentioning that the bill amounted to hundreds of dollars, and the full price was paid for all items. From beginning to end, there were no apologies, and clearly, there was a lack of concern for the patrons who had chosen to dine there. As a manager myself, I completely understand the pressures that come with the role, but displaying such anger and disrespect towards a high-paying customer is unacceptable. I will not be returning, especially after the way my party and I...
