Pros: -The original flour tacos are consistently great. -Wait times are pretty minimal even when they're very busy. -Simple, clean, pleasant environment. -Good nacho cheese and perfectly spicy salsa.
Neutrals: -The taco filling is super greasy and drips all over, grab some napkins. -Definitely not cheap, but not overly overpriced. -A LOT of cheese. If you like cheese, this is a pro. If not, it's a con. -Ultimate hangover food, because it isn't loaded with strong seasoning, so there's not much to offend your palate.
Cons: -If you call your order in, go through your bag before you leave to make sure it's correct. They get it wrong roughly 50% of the time. -If you call to order, and end up driving back home with the wrong order, expecting them to re-fire your whole order for warm food when you return, is apparently asking too much. -When they're really busy, they don't answer their phone for pick up.
Conclusion: My only complaint is about their ability to consistently get our orders right for pickup, and they don't really go the extra mile when they get it wrong. Beyond that, the food keeps us coming back, because it's legitimate comfort food. The staff usually seems like they'd much rather be doing something else, but considering how busy they can get with so few workers, I doubt I'd handle it any better than they do. Overall, worth trying, and worth coming...
Read moreI will never return to this location... I've been eating at Tasty Tacos since the 1980's. I have eaten at this location for many years and have experienced great food and great service.
On a Saturday evening in July, I went to this location and the OPEN sign was on. It was 7pm but the door was locked and the girls behind the counter did not indicate the location was open. I went to the Ankeny location and enjoyed some tacos.
Once in a while I've stopped into this location around 9:15pm to 9:30pm in the evening. Most of these visits I experienced the same great service and food. However, last night when I stopped in at 9:30pm we were asked if the meal was to go by the person at the register. I asked if we could eat in and that we would be gone by 10pm, which is listed as the closing time on the door. The person behind the counter was clearly irritated.
The team was doing their nightly cleaning which I totally expected. My husband and I tried to hurry and be gone by 10pm so they could close. Upon leaving I discovered the floor was wet by the exit door and slipped and fell. There was not a sign stating the floor was wet.
I think this location may need some customer service and safety training. The food was as I expected but the service was terrible and I would urge anyone to be careful if you are looking for a taco later in the evening. I would try a...
Read moreWhatever cheese they use is absolutely amazing. That's one of the key factors to making a great tacowhether it's chicken, beef, or steak. Also, the tortillas they sell are amazing and go fantastic with their signature salsa, but that's the tacos, as for the burritos, I was not that big of a fan(i have not tried the nacho or enchiladas). The great thing about this place is that a lot of the food is really easy to grab, go, and eat, and it is indeed tasty. This is a weird situation where the burritos are cheaper and actually less filling than the tacos. I was not a fan of the sour cream coming in packets, instead of them being able to put it on the tacos themselves or just give me a side of what would seem like fresh sour cream. The service isn't bad, but it's not over the top, great either. The food does come out fairly fast, and they keep things simple, so you don't have too much to complain about. I really like the taco shop because it's not too pricey, it's simple (so good for children), and as it says in the name, it's tasty!
Soon, they will be moving to their own building across the street from their current plaza...
