FIRST TIME review!
Aloha! We were looking for a filipino food spot around Vacaville since our go to spots were closing and out of the area. My BF suggested this spot, letting me know he only came here once and had their lumpiang shanghai (delicious, of course).
FOOD Immediately upon walking in, halo halo was being made. Now in my defense, I would've loved to try their halo halo but I needed some food, food. I ordered the sisig w/ garlic rice and BF ordered sinigang w/ rice.
Sisig w/ garlic rice Crispy pork belly with the citrus, sour ness of calamansi, pops of onion and the ever-slight heat from the chilis. First bite took me back to Saturday night parties, San Miguel and karaoke singing. Damn it was that good. Followed up that first bite w/ a spoonful of garlic rice, which by the way, was NOT available, but Chef hooked it up and it was the bestest!
Sinigang w/ steam rice Not going to lie, as soon as we got home, BF was looking for that patis before he sat down to dig in. Did he find it? Heck no .. but I'm so glad that when he finally cracked it open and took the first bite, he said .. don't need it, they put enough of it in here. Thank Bob ... best news I heard all day, lol. He was slurping, mmm mmm mmm'in and everything in between. Quite surprised of the amount given, but definitely worked w/ the portion of rice that was given too. He also got another order of lumpiang shanghai w/ their house made Sweet Chili Sauce. He remembered that's what they tasted like and it appears that they're pretty consistent in preparing their food.
All in all - this is a winner and will definitely patron their restaurant again. Summer is coming up so that halo halo is sounding really good.
Side note - I hecka forgot my phone there (thought it was somewhere else). They closed at 7 PM and I called at 6:58 pm - Didn't think they'd answer, but they did, and I was able to get my phone back. Told you - it was...
Read moreI've been wanting to try Roline's since I came across their IG posts and reels during and after the pandemic. On my way to Sacramento, I did not think twice to eat at Roline's for lunch. The ambiance is very welcoming and I love seeing their kitchen and prep room from a distance. There is enough seating for groups and a bar area against the window.
Upon arrival, I immediately knew that I want to try their tocino plate. I opted to pair my tocino with steamed white rice. Within the same order, I also added a Classic Halo Halo. I only waited less than 10 minutes for my order to be brought to my seat.
Their tocino is heavenly and a chef kiss! It is very authentic and identical to the Kapampangan Tocino (Pindang) and is perfectly marinated and tender. Chef Andre's tagline "wok, piping hot" truly lives up to its name and the quality and taste is above and beyond.
Interestingly, Roline's offers variations of Halo Halo: not only with 3 different sizes but it can come with red beans or no beans, and you get to choose the ice cream flavor on top. I chose Buko Pandan Ice Cream on top of my classic Halo Halo. The lady was very accommodating to my request to bring my Halo Halo after I somewhat finish my tocino fix. I find it hella cute that they use fruity pebbles as a flavorful substitute for pinipig. Their Classic Halo Halo is packed with the most authentic ingredients and does not deviate from the traditional essence and flavor. I really like that they don't use too much milk (to prevent it from melting and overflowing). It also matches well with a scoop of Buko Pandan Ice Cream. For sure, I'll be back at Roline's on my next visit to Vacaville and or the Sacramento area! Ang...
Read moreEnter the Restaurant, there is seating and an Ice Cream Counter and Window. Walk past that and encounter the back side of the store for the Food Display case. My 1st time at a Filipino Restaurant. I have had this type of food at work social events in the past. I recognize a couple of items.
The items available that I have not seen before, i asked for the description of what is it? The nice young lady assisting me, offered me taste samples along with the description. I tried the Garlic Rice, to see if indeed it was just named that or does the taste back it up? The Garlic Rice was it!!!! I tested the Dinuguan (It said Blood Pork). It was very dark in color. The taste has a little vinegary BUT that Pork was super tender. YES, let's get it. I ordered the 2 item plate. The other was BBQ Chicken, the usual familiar taste that I had in the past. Still good.
All in all I give this place Roline's a 5 Stars All Day. The thing that took it to the 5 Stars is they fact they honor Military and Veterans with a discount. Brovo!!! I will be back when in...
