The food here was downright excellent. It was fantastic food.
The service???? Not so much. Upper management was absolutely to blame for this one. We arrived here at about 7pm on a Monday night, and we were the ninth table to be seated. For all those nine tables full of people...there was one waitress. You could tell that she had way too much work to do for one person. She was a bit frazzled trying to multitask taking care of so many people. The entire time that she was trying to help so many people, three of what I believe were either her 'bosses' or 'upper management' were over in a different corner of the restaurant DRINKING BEER while this poor waitress was trying so hard to keep up! You would think that a GOOD business owner would recognize that there were simply too many people for one waitress to help, and would get his butt up from drinking a beer to help his customers!
My boyfriend tried to order a 12 ounce beer of a certain kind that they claimed they had on the menu, but they were out of it and he had to get a different kind. I ordered some chai tea, and then ordered the Chicken Karob (spelling?) and my boyfriend ordered some type of chicken dish with spinach in it. With both of our entrees were supposed to be able to choose whether we wanted basmati rice or naan, but the waitress never asked. At most restaurants they bring your drinks to you immediately so you can sip on them while you wait for your food to come. But our drinks were not brought to us until the food came. When the food did come, there was only half the rice then their should have been. She said that the rest of the rice wasn't ready and would be coming shortly. Then as we were getting ready to eat we realized that boyfriend hadn't even been provided with silverware, so we had to ask for that.
The food was very, very good. I have no complaints about the food at all. Both of our meals were delicious. The rice that came with the meal was great, and we ordered naan so we could try that, and it too was fantastic.
When we were finishing up our meal, there were only about three tables of people left (including us). THIS is the time that the boss/upper management guy decided to put on an apron and come around and ask how everyone was doing. We just said we were fine because I already planned on complaining here instead.
What I have to say is this: We won't be back. Your food was awesome. The waitress was actually quite lovely. Although she was a little scatterbrained and forgot about fine details (asking for rice vs naan, providing with silverware, etc), she was EXTREMELY nice. The only reason she was scatterbrained in the first place was because there was only one waitress for nine tables of people. She was overworked and under-helped. If you are the owner of this restaurant, I would urge you to take care of your customers: your upper management shouldn't be sitting around drinking beer and chatting it up while one person is striving so hard to take care of your customers. We want to eat at places that treat their employees right, and there was no way that girl could have helped everyone...
Read moreWe have been getting food here since 2017 and always liked it generally.
Visited in the summer of 2021 and it was 105 out and they had all glass windows and no AC so we sweated through our meal. Visited yesterday and it was 40 out and they had no heat. They tried with two small space heaters but it was freezing inside. Everyone was huddled trying to stay warm.
The food has been good in the past - we usually get tikka masala and a lamb biryani. Last night I ordered a mixed grill tandoori and it came out sizzling on a fajita platter but went cold in 30 seconds due to it being so cold inside the restaurant. We waited over 30 minutes between ordering and food arrival and I know the world is short staffed but it seems obvious to at least get a 2nd server for the six hours on a Saturday night.
Also the mixed grill advertised tandoori chicken, shrimp and lamb. I expected the lamb to be fresh meat chunks like you usually get on the biryanis but instead it was ground lamb kabob slices and they were dry and mealy and looked twice cooked. Some shredded cabbage and onions and tossing spices on it does not make Tandoor. I’ve been eating good tandoori for 20 years.
This place is probably only okay for takeout from here on out since they can’t seem to get the temperature fixed in two years and there was one server for 11 full tables and we had to flag the server down or get up to get drink refills or any service.
Spent about $60 (30 per person) for a freezing dine in for two drinks, naan, and two entrees. I would recommend instead get tikka masala and biryanis for takeout and...
Read moreIn the heart of India’s Sikh community, bordering Pakistan you find the state of Punjab. You can experience some of the food in Southern Washington. Despite not having an affinity towards food that leans towards the spicier side, Chutneys brings various spices and flavors that challenges curry enthusiasts alike. The family style own restaurant greets you with a warmth smile. We were lucky to be the first customers there, so our customer service experience felt personal and welcoming. It didn’t take long for our order to arrive and it was one hell of a presentation. The aroma of the various currys made you believe for a minute that you were walking in the streets of Punjab. Of course nothing beats the experience of walking in the streets of northern Punjab and experiencing the culture for yourself. Overall our meals meet the cuisine expectations but could have increase the portion size for the price we paid. I read the other reviews for this place and so far they have been positive. The owner takes the time to read and improve their business based on customer experiences whether be good or bad. So essentially your experience eating here is an improvement from various customers before. Nevertheless Chutney will give you a taste of Punjab. The rest is up to you to see. So if you are in the mood for home style Indian food, Chutneys is the place to go. Definitely give...
