There's a brand new shake shack in Vancouver, Washington. They just opened their doors two weeks ago. And I decided on this sunny warm Thursday afternoon, to brave the lines and try some of their burgers. I ordered their shack burger with bacon. (bacon cheese burger) A shack stack. (burger with a battered fried portobello mushroom) A chicken shack. (chicken burger) Some spicy fries with ranch. (didn't receive ranch) And a cookies and cream shake. Way too much food, but I wanted to do a taste test for several of their menu items. I started off with the chicken shack. It tasted okay, but I feel like it needed a spicy mayo option. I was excited to try the shack stack. But it too tasted just okay. It wasn't seasoned very well. Yes, the mushroom had cheese filling, but that didn't really help a whole lot. The spicy fries were a disappointment. Some of the fries were actually spicy. And others were not. Some of the fries were fried and crunchy. And some of them taste it like they were microwaved. In my entire container, there was not one fry that was longer than one inch. The cookies and cream shake was top notch! It's an excellent shake. The cookies were crushed up small enough so that none of them got stuck inside the straw. The shake had good flavor and good consistency. The best burger was the shack burger with bacon. And if we're being honest, it was the bacon that lifted this burger. Because just as with the shack stack, it was not seasoned very much. My son, whom I shared half of every burger with, thought that the chicken shack tasted the best. (He also ordered a shake that he thoroughly enjoyed. But I don't know what flavor) Afterward, he noted that everything else tasted like glorified mcdonald's. My total cost for 3 burgers, 2 fries and 2 shakes, and a 15% tip was $63.16. Totally not worth it. We both agreed that on a scale from 1 to 10, shake shack restaurant is a solid 4. We were able to walk to this restaurant located right across the street from our apartment. I suggest that if you know what you want, then order it online so that you don't have to stand in line, waiting to order. I think I would return for the shake in the future, but that's probably it. I have visited shake shack before. In Beaverton, Oregon, a few years ago. And I remember at that time, everything tasted overly salty. Nothing was overly salty today, but it all lacked...
Read moreI’m surprised that I had a similar experience regarding a melty shake 5 weeks post opening, when there are similar reviews already on here from weeks ago.
Everyone that’s ever worked in the restaurant business/ customer service knows that the easiest thing you can do to help someone have a good experience waiting, is give them something to drink. I can’t think of any other restaurant that makes a shake or fills sodas immediately after order and then lets them sit on a rack with 15 to 20 other drinks for the 22 minutes it took for our burgers to be cooked.
We were there at what seems to be an average lunch time. There was no one waiting to order at the kiosks and plenty of open tables. Approximately two minutes into our wait, I watched our two shakes and iced tea get added to the rack of approximately 7 to 8 other shakes and at least 10 other sodas/lemonade/teas. 15 minutes into our wait, my husband went up and asked if he was able to get our shakes that were sitting there. The employee said, “No, we will bring them to you with your food.”
There was at least one, if not two, employees standing next to the drink tower for most of the time we were waiting. With a majority of customers ordering at the kiosks, the employees standing at the front counter also didn’t seem to be needed very often to place an order.
Seems to me that it would be easy for at least one of these employees to be bringing the drinks out to the tables where the numbers are. Or at the very least, one employee calling out the number for someone to come get their drinks while their food is being cooked.
In-N-Out calls your number for you to come get your shake when it’s ready, even though your food is still cooking. Burgerville finds you & brings it to you. No other restaurant makes you watch your shake melt on a tower of drinks and then bring it with your food 20 minutes after it’s been made. It was shocking to say the least and not something I thought would still be an issue five weeks after opening, since several other people mentioned the same issue weeks ago.
Hopefully, they can find a way to resolve this. Seems like...

I went back to try other burgers this time. Since I was disappointed with their custard last time, I tried their shake this time. They do have "shake" as part of the name, so I figured it had to be good. They have about 6 different shake offerings. I tried their chocolate shake, and it was pretty good. I will definitely give other shakes a try in the future.
We tried their single-patty cheeseburger and bacon cheeseburger. We took advantage of their May special, which allowed us to get a free bacon cheeseburger with any $10 purchase. Their burgers are properly seasoned and smashed. I did make a mistake to not customize my burger. As a result, I didn't get any toppings. It wasn't clear to me during my last visit as well. I just hope I remember next time :)
I hope Shake Shack will continue offering more specials. I will definitely go back.

I dined at this new restaurant on their opening day. There was this ribbon cutting ceremony and all the staff members and upper management were there. It was quite a happy day.
I have dined at Shake Shack only in New York. It was such a long time ago. I don't even remember much about the experience. It is very nice to see this restaurant opening a chain location here in Vancouver.
I sampled their double burger and a double scoops chocolate and vanilla custard. The burger was perfectly seasoned. But I was hoping the burger to be a little bit bigger. At least a bigger bun would be good. The custard was good but I did detect couple ice chunks. I used to eat custards in the midwest and I know it very well. The only complain I had was that the vanilla scoop was a good size but the second scoop of chocolate was so much smaller. It was rather disappointing. All in all, the service was very good and the food was excellent. Portion is what I knocked one star off. I especially like the ordering system where I can do it myself. I wiil definitely visit the restaurant again and try their...
