I've tried the location up in the Covington area last year, so I kind of knew about the place. If you're local and eat at other local eateries, Hops n Drops has higher end, quality food, with a somewhat reasonable price. You probably shouldn't eat here for lunch and dinner on the same day, but the food is good enough that you could if you can afford it.
It's still a new place in town, so we figured there'd be a bit of a wait. And since we had kids, we couldn't sit at the bar. Hostess said 25-30 minutes and I thought that was reasonable. We got a text maybe ten to fifteen minutes later saying the table was ready.
Our server promptly showed up as my wife was initially interested in something on the happy hour menu, but changed her mind. Our food was out probably within ten minutes of ordering, everything fresh and hot!
I had the French Dip and fries. A fairly good way to judge a restaurant's food I've always thought. The meat tasted freshly sliced and moist. The roll it was on was light and fluffy, and the au jus was great. Fries were the seasoned fries that are always good.
My wife had a chicken wrap that she loved as well. Plenty of chicken, not just mostly lettuce like at some places.
We both had the huckleberry lemonade that I had experienced at my previous visit, and it was amazing!!
One of our son's had the corndog, fries, and the mango lemonade. All were great!! Though he thought they'd put 'sleepy stuff' in it, as he had a full tummy and was warm...
Our other son, who has high functioning autism and is probably the most picky person ever, got the chicken strips and chips. He loved it all!!! Chicken strips were the standard fried chicken style, but looked and tasted freshly dipped. It's soooooo blasted hard to find somewhere that he will eat something at... I was almost dreading going out tonight as I didn't know if he'd enjoy anything.
A great dining experience all around. If you've been to other locations, this one is a bit smaller than others, so it makes for a bit louder of an atmosphere. It wasn't horrible, but definitely on the louder side. The workers all looked like they were enjoying themselves and working there, so that was good to see.
We will...
Read moreHops and Drops Is having a soft opening that's invite only. We had the fish and chips and the French dip. Both are pretty good. The bread on the French dip was soft and moist and the meat was good. It's not as good as Billy Blues but this is a good sandwich. The fish was cod yet it was small like halibut. Having said that, my wife really enjoyed it. The fries are excellent and I don't even like fries much The salad was just okay. It's kind of like confetti. Hops n Drops is a bit like a Red Robin level restaurant. Comfort food done casual. The bar is the same way. You won't get craft cocktails there. No Amaro's and the only sweet vermouth they have is Gallo! 😱 But they have a few fun novelty drinks. My wife had one that was served in an ice glass. It's cone shaped and fits into a normal glass. It's pretty fun. The margaritas are served in pint glasses which speaks volumes for the type of bar it is. The staff is new and training but they're trying hard. What more can you ask. It's a good place and a great addition to the neighborhood. I look forward to seeing what other businesses come into that center/station. Check out my profile for great eateries and craft...
Read moreI’m really disappointed with my experience at Hop n Drops on my birthday, which I went to based on a recommendation. The service was terrible; no one checked on us for at least an hour after we received our food. When we were ready to leave, we had to flag down a waiter just to get our checks. After a quick restroom break, I returned to find no checks on the table—just a machine flashing the total amount, which seemed high considering I had ordered from the happy hour menu. I assumed I might have overlooked the prices, so I went ahead and paid. However, as I was leaving, my total didn’t seem right, so I requested an itemized receipt. When I reviewed the receipt, I noticed I had been charged for two extra glasses of wine that I never ordered or received. I pointed this out to the waiter, but he simply looked at me blankly and said, “Sorry,” without offering to correct the mistake. Frustrated, I left and called the next day to speak with a manager. I explained that it was wrong to add secret charges for items not ordered or received and not to provide an itemized bill upfront. This experience was extremely disappointing, and they have yet...
