UME Coffee & Tea — Restaurant in Vancouver

While I appreciate that this is a small coffee shop, our first visit left us unimpressed. The girls working were on their phones at a table in the back, and though they popped up to help us right away, a trip to the vile bathroom proved they could be using their time more wisely. I honestly cannot stand when people at the till wait for their tip. Great service is rewarded with a tip and paying before proof of said service is annoying. Finally, I have subsequently read reviews regarding the level of ice and the response of the owner to their comments. I have to side with the customers on this. I ordered the Milky Way Light as well and was appalled to see the ice so full that it was obvious there was little of the drink I paid for. So I did an experiment and drank it really fast, measuring the melted ice when I got home: 7 ounces of melted ice to approximately 7 ounces of drink (the cup was not full). Half of my $6.25 was not coffee. Since the ounces were not listed for that price, I have no idea if that was a good price, but visually and otherwise, it's not a good outcome for the customer. I am Viet and a big fan of Ume. Today, I want to review my coffee. It is too weak compared to Vietnamese coffee; it seems like it was not brewed with enough shots, or the coffee is too diluted. Even though I only drink 50% sweetness, it still tastes very sweet from the condensed milk instead of having a strong coffee flavor. I completely understand that the staff may not be Vietnamese and might not know about Vietnamese coffee. I hope the owner will see this review and adjust the brewing recipe. Love their Red drink!! I saw a lady ordering it and it looks sooo cute with strawberry red and green matcha foam so I thought why not give it a try. And it didnt disappoint. The milky matcha foam paired well with strawberry flavor 💖 my husband enjoys his oreo blend drink too. If you like true vietnamese coffee flavor, id recomment their cheese coffee one. For food, their tiramisu are yummy without being too sugary sweet. Too bad their pullpork cupcakes are sold out so I couldn't try it.
