This was the 1st time we tried this place. The only good thing I can say is the make good drinks. My husband and I and another couple arrived on February 10th 2018 around 5:30 pm. Upon arrival the establishment was busy but not overly packed. They brought us chips and salsa, we were asked if we'd like beans and guac, we said yes. Some few min later, a waitress come by and we ordered our drinks, we placed our drink order and asked about our beans and quac and also asked for some napkins. 5 min or so passed and our drinks were brought to us, we again asked for our beans and quac another 5 or so min, we finally received our beans and quac. We asked for some napkins again as we still had no napkins at our table, she left and came back with 3 napkins (4 0f us at our table). We at that point asked if we might get some silverware too. She left and came back and asked us.. How many do you need? Um, 4 please... another 10 or 15 min later, the waitress finally came back so we could place or food order... all four of us are having a nice time, a bit disappointed in the service but all in all were okay , while awaiting our dinner. 20 min or so our food arrived, for 3 of the 4 of us. Waiter delivered our 3 plates said nothing about the 4 order missing and he walks away. We track down a waitress and ask about the missing order, she says let me check on that and walks away, 5 to 10 min later she is passing by us and we stopped her and asked about the missing order, she says ... I'll be right back. Meanwhile, we watch 4 our 5 other parties come in be seated, and dinner orders be delivered... YES DELIVERED!!! and ill no ordered or acknowledgment from the staff on our missing dinner order. We are talking 45 min later and still no dinner order for my husband. I requested to speak with management. Luis Delgado comes to our table and said, I will comp your meal sir, we our like you bet you will, as you can not charge us for something we have NEVER RECEIVED. Luis never even looked into where his meal is or what happened? Just said he'll comp the meal that we never received. I then asked him for the bill as our night out was RUINED by this point. We paid our bill, and then I asked Luis Delgado for his managers info. He provided me with it, I then said to Luis Delgado, what are you going to compisate for his inconvenience? And he gave my husband a 25$ gift card... HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! WORST EXPERIENCE WEVE EVER HAD!!! the one star was for the...
Read more2/2018 Update: Well I did end up going again. Same waiter greeted me and asked how I was doing. I said good, but will be better if I get good service this time (said with a smile). He replied asking what happened to cause me to say this. I gently reminded him of the last experience 4 months prior. To my surprise he quickly remembered the incident of bad service. Next thing I know like 3 different people are waiting on my and my friend...all with smiles. Food was DELICIOUS! Fajita-dillas are the BOMB ! Service was great ! Will visit again. 10/2017 Will never do Happy Hour here again! Waited over an hour for our food, then the waiter tells us our ticket was somehow "lost". So he says he's put our order back in. However, he did not confirm what we ordered. 15 min later he comes out with 3 skimpy looking soft tacos and small plate over cooked nachos (chips were dark brown on the ends). We tell him straight away that is not our order. He replies...are you sure? YES buddy! We are sure ! That is not what we ordered! Then he's all like...what did you order? (SIGH) So then he tries to persuade us to take that food to "munch on" while we wait for what we really ordered and swears to us it will only take 10 minutes for it to be ready. The place is completely over crowded at this time 6:30PM, so really how do we expect our new order to be ready in 10 minutes when our original order (2 Asada Fajita Dilla orders) never made it to us when the place was not that busy at 5pm???!!!??? He attempts to assure us it will be ready and that he will pay for our happy hour drinks, but we decline. and decide to leave because by this time we have to get home. Waiter is like oh okay and then rushes over to the next table to try to give away the incorrect food he just tried to offer us. Geez! LOL As we are about to leave this woman comes over to ask what happened. We tell her what happened. NO APOLOGY ...NOTHING from her! The only apology we received was from the girl who brings the chips & salsa to the tables! Sweet girl and very apologetic for our poor experience! Received better service from her than the waiter or the whoever she was woman who came to ask us what happened but did nothing to make the situation right. I was warned by a couple of co-workers not to do happy hour here, I should...
Read moreAll-in-all, my wife and I enjoyed our dinners and service at the Mill Plain Margarita Factory- and we will be going back soon. But, this review is from the standpoint of relocated Texan who grew up eating TexMex, with the hope that it will help others of our ilk.
We started with some queso dip. I ordered the carne asada dinner with rice and beans and a medium jalapeno margarita. All of these replicated what I might have ordered in a higher-end TexMex restaurant back in Texas.
Now, let's disect.
The queso was tasty, but not quite TexMex. A bit more sour cream in the mix than back home. And definitely not a Bob Armstrong (those from Dallas and Austin will understand).
The accompanying rice was better than I've ever gotten at any TexMex joint - it was both fluffy and flavorful.
I'd rate the refried beans as "good." They were well seasoned, but as you probably know the best refritos are cooked with lard, and well... I'm sure that's not going to happen.
There was a dolop each of pico de gallo and guacamole. The pico was nice and fresh. The guc was good, but seemed to have less garlic/onion than typical TexMex.
My main event- the carne asado. It was pretty much spot-on to what you would expect. Thin, slightly charred, seasoned as expected, I give it an A+.
Also, I give extra credit (and kudos) for the flame roasted jalapeno on the plate, which was delicious as an accompanyment to the carne.
The "medium" Jalapeno Margarita (Cadillac Bar style) was huge. But being huge, it also seemed to be low ABV, so it was fine as a dinner beverage. I would have preferred a couple of smaller traditionally balanced margaritas, but I'll explore the offerings more next time.
My wife ordered the street tacos (2 carne asado and 2 shrimp), served with rice and beans. She was very pleased with both, but I cannot give details because she would not share!!
To wrap up- you can get a synthetic TexMex fix in Vancouver, if you...
