i dont know if its just a bad day for them or what, but the quality of the ingredients was god awful this time around. the last time i went to this place it was pretty good. but this time im surprised i ate as much as i did.
the lettuce in the spring roll tastes like the kind they put in the "burgers" in elementary school lunchs. the mushrooms are bruised and taste very off. some pieces of the chicken were okay, but most of it tasted old or freezer burnt or something. and the onions are transparent and losing color, on top of there being the core of an onion in my tom kha. the peanut sauce that comes with the spring rolls was a super lumpy and weird texture. and the crab fried rice was somehow super bland. the ingredients were definitely already on their way out when they were hitting the frying pan. either that or we were given dishes that were left out and re heated or somethin. on top of all the food tasting old (admittedly i shouldve taken a photo when we first got the order) my soup wasnt even all the way full when i got it. it was almost 2 inches off the top.
over all, it was a shockingly disappointing experience after really enjoying it the first few times. maybe instead of saving money on old or perished ingredients, yall could just get fresher produce? it would make the pricing a lot more reasonable. we paid 50 dollars for our meal (crab fried rice, tom kha, and spring roll with shrimp) including tip. i couldve made it at home for half the price with fresher ingredients, and honestly i regret not doing just that. i dont think ill be going back.
edit i now have a stomach ache :( ill update to let yall know if this becomes...
Read moreHaven't eaten here in quite sime time. Decieded to give them another opportunity..as from what I remember the last time I ate here I got bad msg headache.
We ordered for take away. When i got there I handed them my glass to go container. They said they could not put my hot food in my container because of the health department. I informed the woman that I've not had any issues doing this at other restaurants. they said that the health department has been visiting them recently and they didnt want to get a violation. At frist because of this I was going to cancel my curry order. But then the gentleman nicely said he would have the cook put my food in a bowl as if I was going to dine in and then I could just transfer it to my own glass container. So I ordered cashew nut with tofu and panang curry with vegetables. My friend got BBQ chicken. And we both got mango sticky rice. The curry was fine. But not spiced thai hot as I requested but their was a little kick. The cashew nut tasted very good but the portion was unbelievable small. I was surprised when I opened the container and seen how little food was in there. And for $15. I asked the woman thats all you give no more veggies.. and she looked at my food and said yup thats all..this is a shame making folks spend hard earned money and giving the such tiny portions. Next time ill just go some where eles or cook at home.. Thats why I cant rate this restaurant higher then two stars. They only thing that was decent was the panang curry and that was still on...
Read moreI liked the decor and the staff, I wanted to like the food. It's like going to get into a great looking hot tub and realizing the water is cold. I puzzled over the menu looking for a noodle dish, I am partial to noodles, but settled for the the peanut curry, I mean in a world of choices, the peanut curry seems like a pretty good bet. I was pleasantly surprised to realize that the curry comes with noodles, but then come the first glitch in the experience when I find that the noodles are basically in one big lump at the bottom of the bowl. No Noodle lift, no rolling the noodles up into little bundles of delight, no long loud slurping portions that end up smacking you across your nose. Next while there is a good bite, it tastes green and too fresh, like they just threw the green chili at the last moment. The dish lacked depth, it just tasted like curry, like they didn't put a a lot of love or thought into it. It's not that it was bad, just a little sad...
Sad curry. Not joyful curry or even wild curry, just regular curry. There are so many other places where the curry is like a wonderful tale of far off lands and mysterious sunsets. I have to wonder, are the cooks excited to be there? Are they passionate or are they just doing a job? I suppose If I was shopping next door at Tola Angkor Market (Great place!) I might give it another try, but I wouldn't go...
