Wonderful atmosphere in downtown Vancouver. The menu is fantastic. The quality of food is fantastic. We picked Uptown Barrel Room for our Valentine’s Day brunch and would highly recommend. Started with the Calzone Bites, they were really tasty and a generous portion size.
We had two bacon wrapped fillets, the taste was top notch. The quality of meat was really good. Only recommendation is the butter on the steak was not melted, at all. Just indicates to me the steaks rested for too long before the butter was applied. Nothing big, and not a detractor from the meal itself. Was nice to get asparagus not smothered in salt. The fries that came with were very good. We ordered 2 cocktails, the watermelon refresher and the rain drop. Both were very good, the watermelon refresher was perfectly made and I would highly recommend.
Ended the meal with the Marion berry cake. So very good, the ice cream that accompanied felt out of place as the quality of the ice cream was somewhere between melted soft serve and the cheap 5 gallon buckets of vanilla ice cream.
Overall the meal was more than I expected as far as quality. The portion sizes were very good, almost too much food. Desert was very good. And then the service…..
The service is what makes a place like this so special. Our server was wonderful and took great care of us. Can’t say enough about the great service we had. It was what made everything work so well.
If you need a place to get really good food and a really good drink, this...
Read moreThis place has a nice wine and beer pub feel with a higher than pub quality menu. Its decent sized, the staff were friendly, handled the enviroment well and for the most part on top of it. (I would have liked to see my water glass refilled a time or two more.)We ordered a bad granny cherry cider and a peanut butter porter (I dont normally care for porters because of the coffee taste, however this was all peanut butter smooth). For appetizers we chose chicken with carmalized pineapple and onion as well as steak bites with mushrooms. For we ordered a dinner plate of chicken marsala. Finally we orderd a piece of marion berry coffee cake. Both drinks and appitizer were good and worth a having a second time. The chicken marsala was ok, but not something I'd order again. The marion berry coffee cake was served with ice cream and as far as im concerned is a definite hard pass. It looked nice, but lacked a marion berry taste for me and tasted almost burnt, had it not been for the ice cream i wouldn't have even given it a second bite. I truely wanted to like it but after three bites it was enough and i can say not for me, I'm definitely recommending try something else (other choices are New York cheesecake or chocolate lava cake) or go somewhere else. Overall I'd give this place a second try, order something new based upon atmosphere, the friendliness of the staff, and originality of what we liked. We ended up spending $65 on food with drinks and left a $10 tip, so $75 all...
Read moreMay the Gods bestow upon us the ever loving perfection of a well made BLT with fries, as they bestow romantic sunsets and leaping trout on still waters. First count, the service was excellent without being intrusive. I was seated promptly and with grace, concern for my preferences apparent. The arrival of my iced tea was swift, already I was starting to feel like a first date that was going exceptionally well. Next, I want to worship the fries for a moment. Such a simple thing, an underestimated token that carries such portent, a symbol, an icon of holy balance… so simple and yet so often disappointing. They are the bricks of a good meal’s foundation. Simply the best fries I’ve had in ages! Solid, yet soft, crunchy, yet yielding. And the shape! As if the perfect wedge fries had fallen into an inter dimensional vortex and come out twisted and warped (see picture for reference). How do they do that? And the BLT! A solid stick to your ribs offering that defies description! A meal unto itself! Plenty of bacon, savory garlic aïoli mayonnaise, enough lettuce to make a statement, sourdough grilled enough to not sink into mush! Sometimes places like this can fall into complacency, like a bad marriage that becomes route and inattentive. Not the case here oh pilgrim! Impressed the living sh*t outa me from...
