Compare to Park #5
Wow. Just wow. The compete transformation that has happened to Marshall Park is astonishing.
The old Park, while fun, was tight, and enclosed. The new Park is open with unobstructed views from the top of the hill.
Surrounded by cement paths and astroturf, this inclusion playground has something for everyone! Astroturf hill slides, metal slides, sand area with water feature, climable fire truck with tunnel, ground level merry-go-round, ground level swing, turtle swing, 6 swings: 2 big, 2 little, and two Inclusive, teeter totter, climbing feature, nature climbing area with rings, and a skate park.
Not only are the play features amazing, but the artwork here is so much fun! Both whimsical bronze statues and beautiful mosaics add another level to this park.
The cement walking paths around the center hill has a tunnel underneath it. All features have a wide enough area round it to allow for wheelchair access.
This new playground has breathed new life into this park, and I'm...
Read moreFirst time at the new Marshall Park. I do miss some of the old one with a large play structure. I understand the more natural approach and it is pretty cool. When you have multiple children especially young children, this park is just one giant blind spot. The giant fake grass hill in the middle blocks your view of the scattered attractions all around. Each activity is 20 feet from the next. While the 4 seat seesaw is cool, and the sit and stand thing that you can move side to side is cool, and the swings and the big circle "tire" swing (not a tire) are great, they're so far from each other youre constantly moving from one thing to the next. Not bad if you have one child to follow around. There is also a sand area with a wheel to make water flow down a mountain into the sand pit. There is a mo key bar type area with some wood to crawl on and a net type thing to climb across. There is a small skate area. Everything is just scattered though. There are 3 single restroom stalls. The hand sanitizer was removed from the bathrooms. Right outside the bathroom there's a water fountain that includes a waterborne...
Read morePROS Nice space for outdoor activities - baseball and soccer fields, updated playground. Paved path runs through much of the park. It has more mature trees than newer parks, which means some shade on hot days. Nice sheltered picnic area and uncovered tables around the play area, and the location right outside of the community center means a play break can follow a class or sport. There's plenty of parking, though you may need to walk a ways depending on where you want to be. I've been here probably a hundred times and only once decided parking was too full and parked further away by the Clark College track. The college has properties to the north and east of the park/community center and it looked like there was a major college event to the north on the day parking was full. I don't often see dogs here, and even less often off leash. (Take as pro or con per your POV - I like dogs, but too many can be a nuisance and result in messes.) CONS Restrooms could use a little maintenance, but downtown location may subject them to more abuse. Horseshoe pits are about fifteen years past...
