Had the El Ranchero burrito with steak. I little heavy on beans/sour cream/salsa that made it a little messy, but overall very good. With a drink it was under $10 so it's a pretty good deal too.
Bumping this to 5 stars. The fresh burrito without sour cream was even better somehow. Great homemade taste and friendly service. My only complaint is charging for soda refills when dining in and no chips/salsa bar but I'm sure that's what keeps the prices so low. Definitely worth trying.
10-24 Update: Best Caldo de Res I've ever had and the El Especial aka #10 burrito is probably the best breakfast burrito in the area. I've tried a LOT of local spots in the past 30+ years. They have Pozole and Menudo all the time, but the beef soup comes and goes. Opens early too.
12-23-24 Unfortunately the Carrera family no longer owns this although the website has not changed. I've tried it a couple times since the change of ownership and something is not exactly the same. The Especial breakfast burrito I used to get from Armando many early mornings is somehow changed. Still...
Read moreA Co-worker and I decided to give this place a try on our lunch break, I ordered a Ranchero Burrito with no meat- the lady at the register asked if I wanted no beans? Not sure where she got that, I corrected her and assumed she got my order in the way I explained it. About 30 minutes had gone by and we still hadn't gotten our food, though other people who had come in long after had. I had to approach the counter and ask if they had forgotten about us- they had. The lady behind the counter didn't seem to care and didn't offer an apology or even some chips for us to munch on while we waited for more than 45 minutes now. When my burrito finally came, it was just rice- nothing else?! Not what I had ordered AT ALL, plus the TO GO item I had ordered was wrong as well. My friends burrito was missing guac and cheese, so her order was wrong too. I ended up getting back to work late because it took so long and spent the rest of the afternoon hungry because I only took a few bites of the "rice" burrito I was...
Read moreOrdered online for pick up. Charged an online fee for that. Fine. But have the food ready. Didn't make the food until I got there asking for my order which made me late to where I was going. No conversation about it, just like I'm supposed to deal with it because you already have my money. What's the point?! Wasn't even crowded seeing as the two people sitting already had their food so it surely wasn't a back up in the kitchen. As far as the food, I could only eat half my order of burrito since it was absurdly salted. So total waste of my time and money here. I'll be avoiding even if it's just down the street I work on.
EDIT: I received a phone call from the owner indicating that is not their standard and he was overly apologetic. Supplied a refund and wanted a second opportunity to be my nearby burrito spot. So I am moving to 3 stars until I go try their food again. Gotta give them kudos for taking initiative and reaching out personally. Not a lot of...
