Burrito Express - Vernon Hills — Restaurant in Vernon Hills

We wanted to try this place to support local business vs chains. I’m sad to say it was disappointing after reading so many positive reviews. I was spoiled growing up with really great family restaurants and my opinion may not hold true for others but the food here is lackluster. I’ve never had a dry tamale until today. The tamales are tiny and have almost no meat to it. The kids loved the nachos with meat. They charge extra for the peppers. The horchata doesn’t have the right flavor-it’s the premix very watered down and still over $2 a cup. Overall I feel like everything is overpriced for what you get. I honestly wasn’t going to write a review and I’d just choose to go to other local places next time but what really got me is their lack of response when my daughter knocked her cup over on me and all over the floor. Don’t get me wrong, I take full responsibility for that happening and I don’t expect people to clean up after my family or offer a refill for a spilt drink. I always do my best to keep restaurants clean-I was a waitress and hated people that trashed the place so I do what I can to take care of the workers and help keep it clean to ease their day. We were the only people in there and they were literally staring at me using the napkins to wipe up the table, the floor, the chairs, my jeans were dripping with the juice and they didn’t bring a rag or mop. I spent 10 minutes using cheap napkins to clean up the area so I could then sit down and finish eating the overpriced flavorless food. I won’t be back. And I won’t ever tip ahead of my meal again unless I know the food and...

I ordered a Super King Burrito and a Lengua Taco with green sauce (salsa verde) on the side for both to go. Woman that took my order (she was on her phone scrolling) acted as if she was inconvenienced to take my order. 🤷🏻‍♂️ The Lengua Taco was just ok... The lengua was pre cooked (as expected) and in the mini fridge down below. The cook took out a scoop and warmed it up on the flat top.... The thing that bothered me was that after he prepared my lengua taco, the meat (he warmed up too much and a few pieces) was placed back into the tub in the fridge that held the precooked lengua... Mixing chilled lengua and placing a few pieces that just came off the flat top for my taco back on top in the fridge🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️.

Why not just place them on my taco??

Green Sauce was very watery and weak..4 small 1 ounce containers for a Super King Burrito and a taco ...I almost had to beg for a few extra salsa verde..Why cheap out on the Verde?? As of now, will I return? Doubt it. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Reviews on the Super King Burrito are...

Been here a few times before since last year and it was great. They didn't have an authentic California burrito with fries in it, so we custom ordered a King with fries in it, no problem.

Went here last week and they balked at the idea of putting fries in our burrito, so that didn't happen. (At least there's an alternative that recently opened down the street that does offer a California burrito with fries; a bit pricier but it's worth the better customer service.) Although my normal King was good, I could not completely enjoy my meal and therefore I probably won't be back. Customer service just left me cold on this...
