The only thing I'm upset about concerning this place is that I didn't know about it until recently. This is hands-down the absolute best places to eat breakfast/lunch in the Pittsburgh area. It is easy to get to, only a few minutes from the Highland Park bridge. Parking at the diner is plenteous supply. However, these amenities pale in comparison with the wonders on the other side of the door.
Every staffperson was pleasant and friendly. I immediately felt welcome, almost as if this was a place I had always gone to. As if my family and I had tradition and history here. The care and attention that I received was incomparable. My waitress was not only supremely competent, she was more personable than any I had encountered. She felt more like a family friend than wait staff.
But then the food! I dare anyone to find something on the menu that is not delicious. The bacon was marvelous, the banana walnut bread was divine. Each new food item was a delight and a surprise. Infinite satisfaction crashing on my tongue in waves. If joy was a tangible thing to be tasted and savored, this is a place to find it conveniently packaged in edible form.
If you're a carpe diem type of person, do right by yourself and carpe diner. Elevate your breakfast experience and eat here. Life is too short not to behold a true jewel in...
Read moreQuite disappointed with this place, to be honest. I’ve been past it so many times that I finally decided to give it a try. I came in around 12:30-1 PM. They weren’t super busy, but it wasn’t an empty restaurant either. I had to wait for quite a while awkwardly near the entrance before someone asked if I had gotten served. When I finally ordered, I got the mushroom Swiss burger but substituted for chicken breast.
One nice thing about this place is that they still do breakfast all day. Other than that, the service just wasn’t that great, and the food left much to be desired.
The cheese was greasy and flavorless. The meat itself, and the fries, were packed full of oil. The chicken was rubbery — like it had just been reheated from frozen. Not seasoned well. The bread was the best part of the sandwich. The fries also had no seasoning and had to be doused in ketchup to have any flavor.
All in all, I wanted to like this place, but I didn’t. Maybe their sweet offerings like pancakes and French toast are better, but the burgers aren‘t the best to...
Read moreAfter reading all the great reviews about this place we decided to give them a try. We got a table after waiting 45 minutes after being told it would be a 20 minute wait. The server gave us our coffee but there wasn't any creamer and we asked for some not once but 3 times. We finally got the creamer after waiting for 20+ minutes and our coffee became ice cold. Trying to get refills from our server was almost impossible as they were too worried about the other tables that sat down after us. We had to ask the other servers for refills because the original server wouldn't check in on us. There were multiple tables that sat down after us that had their food and left before we even got our 4 meals.
After we finally got our food the server forgot to put in half our food order and had to wait another 20 minutes for the rest of our order. The food was alright and nothing great. I was highly disappointed about our experience. If you do decide to come here, be prepared to wait. We were there for almost 2 hours...
