Absolutely horrible service at this place. Last Pens season I told myself after countless bad visits that I will never come back to this place again. I stuck to my word the remainder of that season, next season came around and a friend from another state wanted to go for the wings and a pens game (only good things about the hula bar) since he was our guest I figured we I could give it another chance. It was an unusually slow night and the experience was a bit better than the last. Since then I have been back twice. Both visits consisted of multiple wrong drink orders, appalling service, horrendous bill screw ups, menu items not available. Friend of mine didn't get her order of wings until everyone was completely done eating and ready to leave. The most recent visit my friends and I sat for at least 30 minutes before someone waited on us for drinks, another 30 minutes before the waitress/bartender came back to take our food order. At this time we were ready to leave but the waitress had already taken our debit cards for our drinks and they have a $10 minimum, which is technically not allowed. So we decided do just stay for wings. Food came out at all different times, got the wrong flavor of wing sauce. After everyone was done eating we walked up to the bar to request checks because we were no longer waited on. Instead of the waitress giving us our checks she had immediately ran the checks through charging my debit card $47.90. She billed me for 6 orders of 18 wings. Totaling to $39.00, my friends order of 12 wings, his beer and my 2 well drinks, after telling her at the beginning of the night that the checks are going to be separate. I confronted the bar tender and told her that my check was incorrect and she then went on to tell me that she billed me for me and my friends order and that she had already processed it and it cannot be reversed and asked if my friend can just pay me the money for my his meal. I at this time I tried to explain to her that she had charged me $39.00 for 18 wings and she said well you had the 18 wings so that's correct. Meanwhile 18 wings at regular price costs $11.99 but it was half priced wing night so they should have been $5.99. After explaining this to her she then finally realized her misatake and said that her manager is going to have to correct the bill when she gets in later that night. Im still waiting to see if this was actually addressed. Giving it until Monday. So my bill should have consisted of 18 wings for $5.99 and 2 well drinks that were also on special for $3.50 each totaling my bill to $12.99 before taxes and I was charged $47.90. Even with my friends order on my check this bill was waaaay over what it should have been and what makes me the most angry is the bartender acted as if I was wrong and had the nerve to tell me to just have my friend pay me because there was nothing she can do about it.
This visit was just the last straw. I am actually amazed that this place continues to get business. Their owner would rather spend money on having a DJ there instead of hiring another waiter or waitress to provide a better experience to their customers. My continued visits were be because it's a nice place to watch pens games with a large group of friends and the wings are really good but the horrible experience every visit makes it not worth it any longer.
The fact that my friends and I will never come back to this place might not mean a thing to the Hula bar, however if they don't make some changes I can see this having a huge impact on...
Read moreHi, I was there last night and was greet by what it seem like a very racist owner (Asian). I have always came to your bar, ate, played, drinked and recommended your bar. I came in last night with my boyfriend and best friend to play darts and have a drink. However the Owner of the bar stared me down which I figured nothing but comes up to me and only me requesting I show my ID. As, I complied because I do look young for someone that is 28. The owner said she has never seen me before, as I replied really? I come here all the time. Me, my boyfriend, and best friend continued to play darts when the owner came up again requested we order drinks. We decided to continue playing as we already had paid. We decided to leave to as my friend and boyfriend felt weird vibes and out of protection said we would go to another bar. As a Black Hispanic with a degree and works 2 jobs. I felt like this was very uncalled for. Due to this I have decided that I will be placing a few complaints with the better business bureau, the municipality of Verona/Oakmont, health inspector and the Mayor's office.
In response: you did not check my boyfriend's ID. I'm not going to go back and forth as my best friend can confirm that. There is also cameras that could prove only I was asked. Furthermore, I can also pull up years of bank statements of my recurrences to your bar which I can provide for the investigation. Also, I was playing darts I didn't even have a chance to order a drink. You left the bar area and walked all the way over to me. This can also be proven with the cameras. I also know a few other people there as I use to attend Riverview. By the looks of the other reviews your food has been making people sick. I've also heard that you are selling food that is well past the expiration...like pre pandemic. That's from someone that use to cook for you. Don't worry, checking my ID is the least of your worries. Not sure what your thoughts are regarding black people but I assure you this one is...
Read moreThe place looks super fun, so I decided to stop and had open seating and everything but clearly the bartender was new and I asked for a double shot of whiskey. Now mind you, we are in verona!not downtown Pittsburgh or the strip district. I told the bartender to give me a splash of Gingerale because I asked for top shelf whiskey, which they only had crown royal and I would call it at best , middle of the road. The bartender gave me two 1 ounce shots in a tall glass and filled the rest with Gingerale, so which I clearly cannot even taste, the crown peach . So I proceeded to ask the bartender if she could remake my drink, and just put a splash of Gingerale &owner came over and asked how she could help so I told her what I asked for and she said she would make me a new drink. Which was not better. And then I got the bill which they charged me $16 for I drink and I asked why it was so expensive as per it wasn’t even a 2 ounce pour per shot, and she said we charge eight dollars a shot.&was very rude.! I have drank at high-end establishments in downtown Pittsburgh, including Eddie, V‘s capital, Grille, etc. and I have ordered a Manhattan with top shop bourbon and wasn’t as expensive as this dive bar and was treated disrespectfully from the owner. I just can’t believe the experience I’ve had nowadays from restaurants and bar owners to be treated like this when they’re spending hard earned money and they act like they’re doing you a favor by giving you our drink. I want to not be coming back to this establishment and I hope this reaches out to...
