I've been here a lot, as it is certainly affordable, but its hit and miss in terms of quality.
Today, I ordered the blackened chicken Alfredo. The blackened chicken was delicious, had a lovely amount of spice to it. Pasta itself is on the mushier side and definitely very creamy, but Alfredo lovers will likely enjoy it. Wedding soup is fine as well: a few meatballs, little bit of green vegetables like kale, and small noodles. All the entrees came with a rack of garlic bread, which is tasty when heated. My dessert, the chocolate lovin spoon cake, was definitely NOT homemade. In fact, it almost certainly came from Sweet Street Chocolate and was likely shipped to Village Inn by foodservicedirect.com. Another person in my party had a well done steak and it was seasoned fairly well and came with a choice of sid, salad, soup, and bread.
I have tried other food from here as well. Here's a run down: Chicken Neptune: way to buttery, too much sauce, odd texture on chicken but seafood was good. Linguini with Red Clam Sauce: lots of pasta, sauce is fine but tastes canned, small chunks of clams. Chicken with Shrimp: love the Tuscany chicken and the shrimp is tasty, but also had too much breading and oil. Fried zucchini- extremely soggy for takeout, sat on a bed of lettuce which got soaked in oil and the breading started to break apart as well. Chicken parm- large size, cooked well but also a little soggy. Meatball- comes with Village Inn Sampler and it was tasty, decent amount of seasoning but could have been better. Chicken piccata- too much sauce and there were whole chunks of lemon which made the dish immensely acidic. Eggplant rotellini- hard eggplant but the ricotta cheese stuffing is very good, has a mellow flavor though. Lemonade- refreshing and not overly sweet. Cannoli- best I have tried so far. Came with powdered sugar, bit of walnuts, cherries, great amount of cream, not overly sweet, well balanced, and not soggy. Overall, this is a decent place for takeout if you're looking for somewhat cheap Americanized Italian food with huge portions. You will not leave hungry but you'll also not receive the most...
Read moreThis was probably my first favorite restaurant since moving to the area a decade ago, but my wife and I went here on our first Anniversary dinner a week ago and we were disappointed this time around. The crab stuffed mushrooms were amazing , but that's pretty much where it ended. I wanted to switch it up and try something different. I went with the Piccata and i honestly expected something totally different. It says mushrooms with lemon sauce which sounded nice and light but it's definitely this heavy mushroom sauce with just a couple lemon slices on top. It was my first time having veal and I wasn't impressed at all. The whole entree was over salted. I consider myself to have a broad palette and am not at all picky, but this was honestly one of the worst meals I've had out to eat in a long time. I was caught off guard because everything I've had here in the past was delicious. My wife had gnocchi with meatballs. The gnocchi was really good, but we both thought the meatballs were very subpar; The mushiest meatballs I've ever had. I hate to say it but I believe the quality of the food here isnt as it once was. I am reluctant to ever...
Read moreRight away I must say this: I've seen below someone say Its like a little Olive Garden. Well you cant even compare the two. All they got in common is they are both Italian food. Village Inn Blows ANY competitor away by a long shot. All the food is made from scratch with all fresh food and ingredients. Portions are so large that you can share one meal between two grown adults, but the prices are so fair that if you both have your own mean it wont break the bank. I'm pretty sure two can still eat for just under $25 no matter what you order off the menu. We have had a few Get togethers, Birthdays, and even some get togethers after the loss of a loved one there and they always accommodate with no issues even though its on the smaller side. All the staff is very friendly, nice and knowledgeable about what they have and how it is to eat. It is a very clean place and dress up is not needed even though its a higher end interior. (Although going in your bummy clothes since its your day off and you wanna lounge around all day) is not recommended. Its not that relaxed in there. I say they have alot of class at this...
