Gluten allergy awareness: a few stars for the lovely women that work up front and are always so kind to my family and I. I am not sure if the chef is the owner or if they are different people but we had a really negative interaction this morning that led me to write this constructive review…something I never actually do, but hope will improve their communication with allergy sufferers going forward. I have ordered quite a few gluten free sandwiches since they opened and love to support local in Vienna especially when they offer gluten friendly to the intolerance/allergy community. A few times now they have messed up my orders and sent me home with regular sub bread which I often forgive because they are new and getting the hang of things. Today we brought home breakfast after having our infant go through a serious procedure and rehab. We were tired but so excited for the little pick me up and to see our friends up front. When we got home, to our surprise the bread did not appear to be the Udi brand bread that I am used to eating at their shop. For my gf people, the bread has a very different consistency and almost falls apart while eating as it is lacking the protein that holds bread together. My husband immediately took the sandwich out of my hand and taste tested it out of concern and told me he was not confident that it was the Udi brand bread that they normally carry. I called the shop and spoke to the gentleman in the back who responded to me pretty abrasive and rushed stating that my ticket states “white bread but white bread always means gluten free bread in my shop”. I’m sorry what? How does that make any sense. On a ticket, when there is an allergy it should always be stated, and if a customer is expressing genuine concern, you should always be kind and understanding and explain the situation in a way that makes sense. He then hung up the phone saying “Yeah yeah I hope you feel better.” Feel better from what? Was he poking fun at me that I was concerned that I had contaminated myself by taking a bite of the sandwich? Really unkind and unprofessional. I wanted to post this as a word of warning to the gluten free community in our area. I hope you all make this right, but if you choose not to, I wish you luck in this area. As someone who has worked the customer service field (and in that specific building by chance), I do not foresee things picking up if you continue to treat customers as a joke or...
Read moreGreat little cafe with solid sandwiches. Their Sottopanino was a killer combination of meats and cheeses with just the right amount of veggies, peppers and dressing. The roll was reminiscent of a Philly sub roll, which - now this may be polarizing - is the standard by which I judge all sub rolls. Philadelphia just has the best subs ;) Anyway - they use good deli meats here.
I don't think they make their own fries, but they were nice and crispy with a bit of seasoning on them and went well with our sandwiches. My husband had the cheesesteak and said it was just meh - definitely steak-ums - but we are from the self-proclaimed cheesesteak capital of the world :)
Don't pass up the dessert case though - I am not a sweets person, but they had this triple cheese thing that was like a cheese danish, but with a million times more cheese and just a little bit of pastry, we... uhhh... devoured it... It paired really nice with their house chocolate gelato, which was the definition of rich, decadent chocolate. The lady at the register was kind enough to allow us to try a side-by-side of the house and the machine gelato... word of advice... skip the machine, go with the house gelato - the flavor (and the serving size) knocks that name-brand, machine mumbo jumbo out of the park :)
Honestly, just a great sandwich joint with a little store selling specialty items, many of which are from Italy (I will be back for some squid ink pasta the next time I am cooking for friends!). Lovely...
Read moreWe had the opportunity to explore a lovely Italian deli while searching for a breakfast spot, and we were pretty pleased with our experience. The ambiance exuded warmth and a welcoming atmosphere, and the deli offered a diverse menu that included not only breakfast options but also an assortment of sandwiches, paninis, Italian hoagies, vegan dishes, and a variety of Italian cakes, desserts, cookies, and grocery items. The decor, featuring charming Italian masks, posters, and bottles of wine, contributed to a cozy Italian deli vibe.
The Nozzo Croissant was delightful, showcasing a harmonious blend of flavors from the spicy sausage, American cheese, and caramelized onions. The Egg Benedict was also quite flavorful, with generous portions and impressive quality that exceeded our expectations, all at a reasonable price. The chocolate roll cake, not overly sweet, served as an enjoyable complement to our café latte.
Service was commendable—efficient and attentive, with a friendly staff that enhanced our dining experience. We look forward to returning soon to sample more of their...
