It's nice to see a Charley's that not in a mall. Excellent sandwiches, as expected!
Time to revise... I have been to Vernon Hills Charley's many times, but as I'm in my 70's, walking a mall to eat is getting difficult. So, the store on North Avenue became my go-to store but they have a bit of a problem following instructions. I ordered two classic sandwiches, telling the person that all I wanted on my two sandwiches was steak, cheese grilled onions & green peppers? I specifically also said no shrooms or mayo on them, but who puts lettuce tomato and a freakin pickle on a Philly Cheesesteak? They are not listed on the menu, so???! My lady and I both remarked that even with the pickle and stuff removed, you still taste pickle! I would suggest that the manager takes a class from a real Philly CS chef. When I lived in Chicago, there was a couple that opened a Philly pub on the north side. No CS sandwich came with that foreign matter on it! Since I specifically told them what I wanted on the sandwich, but got unauthorized stuff, I am reluctant to go back! Not many people want to be forced to taste pickle on their sandwiches... Very disappointed, because they should ask if you want xyz on...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience with the California cheesesteak. The dish was overly salty and dry, and attempts to improve it with three different sauces—ranch, Charlie’s homemade sauce, and mayo—didn't work. The lemonade was also overly sweet, making it difficult to enjoy. Compared to similar restaurants like Chick-fil-A or McAlister’s, this place didn't measure up. I don’t think I’ll be returning, as there are many better dining options available.
To be honest, I had the exact same issue with their loaded fries. If you decide to go there, just get the cheese fries; the loaded cheese fries were garbage. They had fake bacon bits and way too many sauces. The cheese fries probably would have been decent, though. That was all I ate of the sandwich, and I don’t plan on eating the leftovers—definitely a waste.
On a positive note, the sandwich was a nice size with decent bread. My 22-year-old son hated it but ended up eating his along with mine before heading back to Wisconsin. He said the same exact thing; he’s a 20-year-old guy who enjoys eating a lot, as he plays football. Again,...
Read moreUpdate, Mike the owner called, explained the oil was changed just needed to make sure the temp on the oil was turned up after changing. He reiterated the process to his team. I explained as an Ops Manager, customer service is just as important, as process and suggested the gal recieves some coaching. He offered to make everything right but I humbly declined as lets face it, easily remidied by throwing in the air frier. *Normally not a bad stop. Today, a take out order got home to Raw fries, still crunchy. Called the store to experience the poorest customer service. The fries are white because the oil was just changed... no..they are raw. The gal apologized and would never happen again. Ok, well I just paid for 3 large bags of slightly cooked potatoes, can I get a refund? The excuse was no because I paid on the ap. Not the case, I ordered from the computer, not an ap. She asked if I could bring the fries back, I said no. I asked for a manager, she said to call back in 15 minutes. Sad, cause usually is a decent stop. Horrible...
