I write this review with the heaviest heart. I've been going to Foons since the 1980s. It was a legendary restaurant owned by John and Wing. I travel extensively across the US and this restaurant was one the best Chinese restaurants in the Country. When John downsized to his take-out on Shore Dr. the food quality remained Legendary. The Steak Kew, Lo Mein and especially the World Famous Egg Foo Young. I've moved to Williamsburg and yesterday I traveled over an hour to get take out. I asked for John but the guy up front acting like they didn't know who he was. When I got the food the Egg Foo Young had no flavor and gravy was just bland flour water and soy sauce. The Lo Mein barely had beef which was full of gristle. Fried rice had barely roast pork and was bland. I ended up just throwing everything away. The restaurant has been sold to new owners who have decided that quality wasn't important. It's just your average #1 Chinese on every street corner. Yesterday, I felt like I I went to a funeral knowing that Foons restaurant no longer existed. I hope the new owners can take this review and improve to the quality Foons restaurant once was....The new owners need to realize that Social Distancing should be in effect during this pandemic and staff should wear gloves and Masks to protect...
Read moreGreat flavor Singapore Rice Noodles, perfectly spicy.(I am super picky and this is by far the best noodle dish I have ever had)........chicken fried rice - great flavor with that little hint of wok seared taste. Big pieces of chicken too. Very nice. Dumplings were tender and good flavor. Won ton soup could use a bit more taste, was a little bland. Lumpia was good, not greasy at all. Same with egg rolls - so good. Shezuan beef could use more heat.(we like spicy) Pepper steak was a hit. Walnut chicken was good, nice balance of crispy and sweet. My husband loved the general tsao's chicken, little bit of heat and very tasty. Prices are great -actually on the low side. We wanted to try multiple items so our bill was a bit higher (and we have enough food to feed the three of us for at least four more meals), on the other hand you could order a lunch special for under five dollars and be satisfied. This is a take out place, only two tables - decor is not great, and really why should it be, given it is more of a take out kind of place. The place is clean -you can see into the back where they cook the food, and it is organized and clean. Service was fast, friendly, and professional. This is our new Chinese delivery place, as we have been looking for one since moving to the area last...
Read moreThis place has truly went down hill since about 2020 when i first had them. Back then they were friendly and the food was great. As of today i wouldn’t recommend to anyone and i won’t be returning. Everything was different and cheaply made just nasty honestly. I ordered 2 SEPERATE egg foo young which were flavorless and nasty honestly. They give us ONE large container of rice as if we did not order two separate orders. Reasoning was so THEY can reduce costs. My question was what if the food is going 2 different places? Like who does this? You NEVER have to ask any Chinese place to separate your order that was it’s on separate order anyway. Lumpia used to be great now it’s big greasy and a bit pink inside. Chicken wings were small cut up wings which I’ve also NEVER seen at any Chinese place nor did they use to serve them this way. The also smelled like cheap breading as opposed to their known Chinese chicken smell. I asked for FRIED rice and got pork in it although i did not ask for pork fried rice. Please avoid this place! I believe they are under different management but it’s greatly...
