The food is delicious. I’ve visited 4 times in 10 Days. I brought my adult children to eat with me on 2 occasions. I really enjoyed the food trying several different dishes. On my 2nd to last visit I noticed the server named Wifi charged me $2 for steamed rice. After checking the menu to verify (what I already knew) that the steamed rice Is included with any Cantonese Entree (my order was the Cantonese ChowMein Chicken) and according to the menu the steamed rice is included and if you wanted fried rice there is a $2 fee. I don’t like fried rice so the steamed rice was perfect. After discussing this with the server she said she would speak to the manager about the charge of $2 for the steamed rice. The server came back and said the manager says that steamed rice doesn’t come with the Cantonese Chow Mein because it’s served on a bed of fried egg noodles. I was finished eating and was stunned with the servers explanation since it’s clear as bell on the menu that the steamed rice is included. I left the server a $5 tip for a $20 bill anyway and left figuring I’d speak with the manager/owner myself the next time I’m in. Again I like the food very much. So the following day I wanted to share the delicious food with my adult children. We ordered our food and again I ordered the Cantonese Chow Mein Chicken and again the same server Wifi charged $2 for the steamed rice this time I asked for the manager to come to the table. I diplomatically and gentleman like asked the manager, who turns out to be the owner about the charge of $2 for the steamed rice which is included with the Entree per the menu. The owner goes into this story about the fried egg noodles being under the Chow Mein and the noodles count as the rice ? Or because the Chow Mein has noodles the rice isn’t included? I was flabbergasted to see the owner worrying about $2 steamed rice when my check is $70 for 2 people (no complaint by me about their pricing none!) The complaint here isn’t the pricing or the food. The complaint here is with the owner and in the way she was defending herself refencing the noodles and the rice being one in the same to which, again gentleman like, I say to her but it’s on the menu clear as a bell if you consider the noodles the rice then the menu should reflect that Entrees with noodles do not include steamed rice. The owner agknowledged that the menu is wrong and even so was visibly angry that I was having a problem with the $2 charge. The owner was unwilling to give any courtesy or any explanation other then she was right and I am wrong. The owner never understood me in the least treating me as if I were asking for something for nothing. Oh my goodness I’m not one to care in the least about the $2 however I do care about an owner trying to make me think I was the problem here. The owner made a comment that “the menu needs to be changed but that’s not happening today” My experience was terrible. I still honestly cannot believe the way the owner handled this situation! I was such a good customer spending all kinds of money happily and leaving better then 20% tips. What in...
Read moreBEWARE of these LYING, STEALING CROOKS!! Charged my debit card twice for an order of pancit. My $11.09 order wound up costing me $22.18. When I went back to the restaurant with a printout of my bank statement & showed my statement on the app, they came up with all kinds of excuses as to why they couldn’t reimburse me. Instead of making it right to satisfy the customer so I would come back again, they chose to make excuses. Going to show me a printout report from their register and said it only showed the funds coming out of my account 1 time on their report. I don’t care what your report shows, my bank statement shows $11.09 deducted twice for Forbidden Palace. I told them I would never come there again and was going to write a bad review. They didn’t care. Terrible attitude because they know they’re wrong. They know they received the payment twice but instead of making it right they chose to keep my money. You don’t profit or benefit from mistreating people. It will come back to hurt your business in the end. If I were foreign or white they would have gladly reimbursed me. I might be black & elderly but I’m far from stupid. The same thing happened to a friend of mine at Popeyes. But at least Popeyes had the decency to reimburse her for their mistake and make it right. Forbidden Palace is a poorly run business who doesn’t care how they treat their customers. Ignorant and poor customer service. Just remember you wouldn’t have a business if you didn’t have customers. I’ve told my family and friends about my incident and they won’t be going there either. The hostess is awful and so is Ekah . They’re the 2 who lied and...
Read moreHonestly, Forbidden Palace is hands-down the BEST Chinese food in the Tidewater area! It's a shame that they don't deliver, but they're so good that we happily drive all the way from the Oceanfront down to Rosemont Rd. to pick up take-out. The flavors are amazing, and they use fresh, high-quality ingredients. It's a little pricier than your average take-out joint, but completely worth it!
The ambiance is nice... Appropriate, but understated. Soft lighting and a well-stocked bar. The service is always fantastic. When calling in a take-out order, we often seem to forget to add our salads, but when I show up and ask to add them, it never takes more than a few minutes. I think they also have good lunch specials.
I especially recommend the Beef Chow Mei Fun, the Szechuan green beans, and the Mongolian Beef, although their other dishes are just as good. They also have a good little house salad with yummy ginger dressing. All in all, I can't say enough good things! We're such big fans in our family, that I went to pick up take-out yesterday, and ran into my aunt and uncle having their own dinner there!
