Tucked away in the corner bypass between VA Beach + Norfolk thoroughfare lies Hansang situated by a business strip of small businesses. This restaurant is a small but mighty choice for Korean style food. This was my second try at trying this restaurant. The first being a random night but the shortstaffed, long 1.5 wait for dinner was not an option so I opted to return later.
This evening the check in and seating process was swift. The menu was easy to follow with great descriptions underneath each menu item so you're not left guessing what is on each plate. I ordered a hot tea, but know it'll simply by a hot mug with a tea bag so no frills of a hot pot.
I ordered mandu fried but got steamed and besides that it was really good and plated nicely. I ordered the mandu ramyun and should have stuck with this dish itself.
The ramyun came in a large metal bowl. It was filled nearly to the top and smelled great! The broth was delicious and flavorful with just the right amount of spice that wasn't overbearing. The rich had a boiled egg, thinly slice carrots, and a little green onion. It would be nice if they had mushrooms or broccoli added to the dish.
The service was attentive and the waitress answered questions about the dishes with ease. I enjoyed watching music videos while I ate. When you're done they bring out a platter with mini prebiotic milkshots, they're individually sealed. Also, you'll get a tray that has kimchi, broccoli, and fish cakes. I would've loved if they had it where you could customize the options in the tray because I'm not a fan of the cakes.
In the end, this was a good time and the food made up more than enough for the delay last time. Check this place out for their ramyun and japchae. Make sure to cine a bit earlier on for dinner and your plate...

Please be very cautious when ordering stew because kids can easily get burned if they bump or touch them.) Hansang "plentiful table" restaurant was a smash hit for us. After having lived in South Korea and being married to a Korean man, I can honestly say, this was like visiting Seoul, South Korea once again. Minus all the bustling crowds of the big city, this restaurant was pretty calm, clean and modernly designed. It lacked that tacky decor that a lot of Asian restaurants have. All along the interior were images of Jeju Island, Korean temples, kimchi pots and some ornate figurines. The menu was extensive and authentic. They have the menu in both Korean and English. They do delivery via grub hub. Several orders were sent off while we were dining in. They have a huge selection and even family style meals so this is a peefect place for group parties. Tables can also be reserved in advance. The staff was amaaaaazing.~ Claire who speaks both English and Korean well can answer any and all questions about drink and menu items. She also lived in Korea as well! We ordered 2 kimbap, gamja tang, and a kimchi jjigae. The stews were served in the traditional clay bowl just like in our days over in Korea. Our kids loved the yogurt dessert drinks. We left fat and happy, or I mean, fuuuulll and happy. Thank you Hansang Family for such a wonderful meal! We will most definitely revisit in the near future. 진짜 맛있다! 우리의 좋아한은 한식 맛집...
Read moreWe were passing through and thought we'd give this place a try. It appears to have good reviews. However, this is not how I feel about this place. When we came in, the hostess sat us and said that we had to order at the table. The tablet is bolted to the edge next to the wall, so I had to reach over my child to order. It doesn't say how big the portion size is, just that there is a 20% gratuity for parties over 6 and that first side dish is free, but refills would be charged an extra $1.##.
I spent a year in Korea, and side dishes were never charged extra. We attempted to order 3 dishes, and I asked about the sides. She informed us that we would get only 3 sides for the entire table, not 3 per order. I spent a year in Korea, and they always served 8 or more sides at the table. They would always ask if we wanted more if our dishes were empty. Even at every Korean restaurant I've visited in the US, I've always gotten plenty of sides with no issues.
After I ordered, the waitress informed me that we needed to order another dish because we had 4 people at the table. The 4th person was a 5 year old kid. He and his 9 year old sister can't eat an entire adult meal, so we were getting 1 meal for them to split.
So with all these obstacles and having been to Korea, we chose to leave and find a different restaurant. Which we did, down the road. The other Korean restaurant gave us plenty of sides. They also allowed the 5 and 9 year old to share a plate. They were...
