I am not a difficult man to please. When reviewing places I tend to rste very highly, for me 4 stars is meets my expectations and my expectations are, admittedly, very low. So while I do not have high standards, I do have standards. And much to my disappointment, Kelly's Tavern at Hilltop fails to meet them. Now I will be generous here and assume that this can easily be chalked up to runover issues from St. Patrick's day, but they are issues that I feel make me reluctant to give the place a second chance. Prices for the food were very high for the small portion sizes, and quite frankly the taste was bland and uninterested. I ordered their Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich and, quite frankly, I've had frozen meals with more flavor to them, a sentiment that the people who were dining with me shared about the firecracker wrap (not enough fire) and cheeseburger (not worthy of the "Best HRVA hamburger" moniker emblazoned on the coffee cups.) The coffee was thin and weak according to the person who ordered that, although I will admit that they tend to like theirs very strong. It was somewhat obvious that the food was designed around the idea that you would be heavily drinking at the time. And while this is not necessarily a bad assumption, it is one that still does not forgive bland flavor, and especially not for the prices charged. If you are looking for a place to drink I am certain that this is a perfectly fine place to go, but if you are looking for decent pub food you would be better...
Read moreGot yelled at by the waitress that it was a hour wait for food as soon as we walked in the door. So obviously my group of nine was an inconvenience for her. We couldn't even get a table so we played pool as we waited thinking that we were going to eat. My daughter in law was told after about 45 minutes of waiting that we were not going to be served which escalated into a verbal confrontation where bad words were exchanged from both my group and the waitress who was called a name that was uncalled for and wrong to say. However, she did in fact earn the title and this word adequately described how she was acting. We weren't drinking and no one was intoxicated, we just wanted something to eat it and it would have been an easy payday for the restaurant and a fat tip for the waitress because it was Christmas night and I was feeling generous. I can't force a business to take my money. Waffle House was happy to take my money and the waitress we had at Waffle House made almost $100 in tips in less than 45 minutes. Customer service and paying attention to every one who walks in can payoff well in the end. All your waitress saw was a group of young adults between the age of 18 and 21 and felt inconvenienced and it showed. Her refusal not to serve us and give us only attitude cost the restaurant and herself a nice Christmas bonus! Hopefully this establishment gets better because as I read these reviews many of them reference the same...
Read moreRegular at other Kelly’s locations, so husband and I thought we stop in for dinner. Ordered drinks and our favorite burgers MEDIUM RARE. The frozen daiquiri my husband ordered came over ice…. This location doesn’t do from drinks, but nobody thought to say that when we ordered. Burgers came…. But both were Well Done. We mentioned this to waitress and she re0-ordered the burgers. Next two burgers come out and they are RAW in the center… liquid raw meat. Someone either doesn’t know what they’re doing or he has a dangerous sense of humor. There’s no way these would be safe to eat. Asked waitress if these could be put back on grill for just a little bit…. She comes back and gives us a check for the drinks, saying she’s not going to charge us for the fries. Acting Mgr was the bartender who came over and said she was glad she could get us a discount (what?). 11$ for a sad little juice glass of margarita on ice and an ice tea. I guess I was supposed to be thankful she didn’t charge us for the fries? The Strawbridge Kelly’s is outstanding…. Go there instead. This Kelly’s on Laskin is terrible…. Just really bad… the Health Department should...
