No Frill Bar And Grill — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

I want to make sure I wrote this review. This past Sunday was my daughters baptism (8/18/19), we had a lot of friends and family in town for the service, well we wanted to have Brunch afterwards, so the week before my wife started calling places to book a reservation for about 20 people, not a single place before we called No Frill Grill would accept our request, they all said we could accommodate you once your party arrived but couldn’t make a reservation to guarantee a table available within a reasonable time of our requested time of 1:00. She called No Frill Grill and they said we’ll be more than able to accommodate your party and took our reservation down. We arrived just before 1:00 and they were in the process of cleaning up after the party they had there beforehand and said it be a few minutes, I’m all for having to wait a short time to finalize an area from people beforehand being there enjoying their food, I’d be fine with a party of 20 if had to wait an extra 15 mins from a reservation time, we just didn’t want to go to a place and have to put our name down when got there and have to wait an hour just to be seated. No Frill Grill understood that and wanted our business and to be able to serve us. I know we were looking for and asking a lot for a reservation of 20 on a Sunday around 1:00, it’s a busy time for brunch in Virginia Beach but No Frill Grill didn’t see it as a problem, they saw it as an opportunity to help out our party of 20 and take our reservation. As always they Food is great and our waitress was fantastic, she really knew how to run a large group with taking orders and making sure everyone and everything was smooth, we had 5 separate checks between the party and she was great about getting the tickets all right. I myself ordered the crab Benedict which was delicious, friends of ours had ordered the fish fry, which is a fried flounder, it just reminded me that I still need to order that plate, such a big piece of fish that takes up the plate. As always would highly recommend this place and look forward to our next trip there, but most of all, if got a large party to plan on going out to eat, this is always gonna be my go to place. I’ve eaten here and the Norfolk location many,many times through the years. Unfortunately, I cannot give a good review to the Laskin location anymore. Last night was probably the worst service I’ve ever gotten from a restaurant. We were sat at a dirty booth and it took a minute to have it cleaned and us to be greated by our server. We felt rushed though the drink ordering process and received no recommendation or seasonal offerings from Jen our sever. We were unable to order quick enough for her so she said she be back with just waters. We then waited to order our food. We asked that our young sons food come out first and that we preferred it not me smoking hot from the kitchen. Of course it comes with all our other food and the food and plate are so hot it cannot be eaten for some time. My son is 3, so a little consideration by the parents was Too hard to follow? Next, we are asked finally if we’d like anything from the bar. My wife orders a blue moon, but I was curious about a beer on the specials menu. I asked about it and said a beer I thought was on the specials menu. You would think a thoughtful and considerate server would offer either me the ability to see the specials menu or bring me a taste or the beer she thought I was speaking of. Instead a random draft was brought to the table. At which point we are completely ignored the rest of the time. We were not asked a single time how are food or beverage was. Or if we needed anything else. We all had ordered the sautéed green beans with our meals. And let me tell you the weren RAW, under seasoned and tough! Gross! Redskin potatoes wow, do you even peal any the skin before just mashing them do death with a mixer? Extra gross! On top of poor quality food, poor service, the place is a dump. Flies flying around our faces the entire time we’re there. Shows us there is food and messes not being cleaned properly. I wonder what the Health inspecter would say on a surprise inspection? You have lived up to the name of No Frill. Sad, we just wanted a night out as a family to get some comfort food. We were not at all comforted.
