Pelon's Baja Grill — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

Yum! My boyfriend and I tried takeout from here a few weeks ago for Friday night dinner and loved it!

We ordered sides of the chips and salsa and chips and queso - fair prices and decent-sized app orders for $2.50 and $3.50. Was easily enough to share for two people.

My boyfriend always gets fish tacos so he chose 2 of Pelon's Fish Tacos for $7.50. He thought they were very good and light and not overdone. Only had shredded cabbage, baja white sauce, and salsa. Fresh and simple. Lots of fish.

I eat way more so I chose a burrito of which they have plenty and several look really good. You can also build your own. For my first time eating here I tried the The Curl for $9.75 with breaded white fish, refried beans, cabbage, salsa, lime juice and pelon sauce. I added avocado and jalapeños and I love that you can add items. Loaded with fish.

We also have to order Mexican street corn if a place has it so we ordered 2x of the Elotes for $4.50. It was wayyyy too much for two people, we could've split one but it was GOOD. Loaded with cotija cheese and lime chili sauce. YUMMMMM. Highly recommend.

Ordering from their website is a breeze, but the order was ready way sooner than the email said so be ready to head there ASAP when you place the order!

Will def. eat here again and...

Mixed results. Tortilla chips seemed stale to one diner, other diner thought they were fine. We both agreed the salsa was way way too oniony...not our taste. One diner stated salsa was spoiled but we agreed it was just too much minced onion. Positive reviews for the guacamole, definitely fresh, definitely tasty, definitely saved the dish. We found a nice mild red hot sauce from a large selection that added the kick instead of the onion salsa. Three beef tacos were just ok, not remarkable but not bad either. Again the onions were on the heavy side. If we had known of the onion surplus we would have asked for less. At least on the tacos we could scrape them off. So there you go. Too many onions, I don't know if it is every dish or just our bad timing. Compared to our meal at the oceanfront, this one didn't live up to the expectation. Still better...

If you're going to charge 2x as much as the real 'So-cal' cuisine(taco shop) your food has ALWAYS got to be on point.

I spent $30 on three fish tacos and 1 California burrito

Fish tacos, felt like the fish was 2-3 days under a heat lamp with how hard it was to chew, and no flavor other than the Baja sauce. No amount of sauce or cabbage will make up for fish that doesn't have some sort of crunch or 'freshness' to it

California burrito- steak (Carne not-so-asada) was super greasy. Fries were no where to be found. Best part was the Mango Habanero sauce I asked to be put into the burrito.

Again if you're going to charge 2x as much as you could buy this for at an actual taco shop on any corner in SanDawg then it has to be better than this...
