This was my first visit to ricks café in Virginia Beach. I was helped by Karen F at 12 o’clock on a Sunday I remember this place being very busy as it seems to be the favorite place to eat and now I personally know why. I have a very excruciating allergy to most things in prepared food. There’s so many things I can’t have. It’s almost a wonder what I can have. I walked in there I was greeted by three people with smiles even though the place was packed. There were no attitudes that I could see so very warm and welcoming, Karen approached me handing me a menu. I looked over the menu and told her that I had some serious food allergies and could she work with me ?? she was eager to help me even though the task at hand was very difficult. I may admit, but she took it on with the best class and enthusiasm I’ve ever seen , she was so thorough as to help me out with the best price for my meal choice, as well as talking and communicating with other staff and the grill cooks !!! The cooks in the back were very understanding and they took my food allergies. Very seriously. They took the time to clear their grill and do as needed to make sure I was safe to consume my food. This to me is the most exceptional service in Virginia state I love them all and I am now a forever customer. It’s always so hard for me to eat out because of my food allergies are so abundant in so many foods that it’s hard for me to enjoy a daily meal with friends or colleagues or family even like other regular people do so thank you so so so very much Rick’s Cafe for being the best place I’ve ever visited that accommodated me in such a beautiful way and might I say, while you guys had every chair and table filled in that place, you put everything to a halt to make me feel special!?!? You guys are amazing Pat yourselves on the back...
Read moreI go here for breakfast usually but this day I haven't eaten all day so I actually walked her which is 15mins from my home. Get there and order steak sub with onion rings. When I received my order the bread was soggy and leaking juices. It was so hard to eat. I was starving so I tried and ate 1half almost. I couldn't eat the other piece because it was soggy to I actually had to put a napkin under the bread to soak it up. I let the waitress know she made a smart comic when I told. her I walked up here. Her reply, "I walk up here everyday. Okay but I didn't ask for soggy bread plus it was cut really strange you had to hold it in an unuasual way.She said what do you want us to do, in an unbothered way. She left never came bk. Another waitress took care of me and wasn't rude, I appreciate her. We have a lot of homeless people in that area and I can't imagine one come in and get her. It could've been my last after being or walking in hot sun and you make light of the situation. The short waitress are excellent that tall Blonde with Glasses is a mitch.Watch out when you go here. The Onion Rings were Extra Burnt too. I know they wouldn't have done the older couple in front of me that Way. They discontinued me. They charged me $8.00 for the half I ate and Orion Rings.* Don't Eat Brunch or Dinner Here,** They'll look at you like you crazy if you...
Read moreI have been here before but never posted a review - this one is from a visit on July 8th. We were here (as we have been) for a Geocaching event.
There were about 25 of us, probably more, and despite it being during their Saturday evening dinner rush, all of our orders were correct, our drinks refilled in a timely manner, the staff friendly & our food was delicious and conservitely priced.
I had the club sandwich with ham and bacon, fries, battered onion rings, fried okra and apple pie Ala mode.
I love club sandwiches, and even though they are quite simple, Rick's was served hot, perfectly toasted, no bad ham cuts, fries crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside, onion rings that were sweet in their battered shell and fried okra that reminded me of mama's home cooked okra from my childhood memories. The only hiccup in my meal was the pie. The crust was so light that it appeared uncooked - no crispy pie shell and the apples felt too firm. Even with my dessert being a let down, I was happy enough to want to make a return visit.....and soon as they have BBQ ribs on the menu!
Ps, they have menu prices that are better than fast food when you consider the amount of food that you get with each order.
Home cooking almost as good...
