I have never been to a Bonefish before this evening and I only went on the reccomendation of a close friend. I went on a wednesday evening to watch the Cubs game and to have a nice night to myself.
I walked in and was welcomed at the bar immediately by a friendly bartender whose name I did not catch, but she left shortly afterwards and i was taken care of by Caitlynn for the rest of the evening. Caitlynn was an absolute delight, kind and engaging conversations with all of her guests at the bar.
I presented Caitlynn with a challenge as i had never eaten here before and let her know that i would like her to pick my menu for me this evening. An appetizer, an entree and a bowl of soup. She gladly accepted the challenge and did not disappoint!
First i was delivered their bread, a crisp ciabatta with house made pesto, which i was very hesitant of but gladly mistaken. It was quite delicious with great salt balance.
For my starter i was given the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl. It was light, and refreshing with varying sizes of tuna chunks, it was citrusy and sweet. One of my only 2 "complaints" of the evening was that the tortilla chips had a bit of an inconsistent cook on them, most were perfecrly crisp however there were a few outliers that were under done and one that was just under burnt. Being house made tortilla chips though i can fully understand and by no means was it a deal breaker.
After my app, i was given the Crab and Corn Chowder. While nothing spectacular it was good. Rich and creamy, with a heavy corn flavor, the touch of bacon was a needed addition.
And finally for my entree, Caitlynn had selected for me the Chilean Sea Bass with Pineapple Glaze. Flaky and moist, cooked perfectly. Great flavor alone. However this does include my second "complaint" of the evening, i myself am a pineapple fanatic but Ifeel the glaze was a bit overpowering to truly to let the sea bass really shine through on its own. I ended up scraping most of the glaze off to the side and grabbing a little bit of it with each bite. For my sides, i was presented first with the Broccoli which was cooked perfectly as well, a slight give but still crisp. Second was the Bacon Mac and Cheese which was a wonderful finish to my meal!
The manager Sam came and asked how the evening had gone for me after hearing of my challenge for her bartender and i shared with her that i could not have been more pleased with the menu Caitlynnput together for me. It was a great meal that was both light and filling when needed, rich and delicate where appropriate. The service and experience were both top notch and what i would hope for from any...
Read moreSince recently indulging in Bonefish Grill’s Bang Bang Shrimp, I have been enamored. Enthralled. Perhaps even in awe. This dish is my everything, and I yearn for it as I know that I cannot personally perfect it the way the cooks do in the kitchen of the Midlothian location.
Starting with components as simple as shrimp from the sea, or even the shredded lettuce base, the Bang Bang Shrimp doesn’t miss.
Bonefish takes ingredients so basic and masters their places in the dish, as they dance smoothly en route to tie the entire experience together. While the crunch of the breading and the warmth of the shrimp are the two sensations I recognize immediately, the robust taste of the ever-so classic Bang Sauce is admittedly the first taste that caresses my tongue.
Many people with inexperienced palates call Bang Sauce “overwhelming” or “overrated”, but I say nay. With such a defined flavor of both sweetness and spiciness, these two components eloquently give you that base that makes you think “this is not only the pinnacle of fine dining but also a substantial meal that will give me the energy and power to get through my day in just the right way”
And on top, you get those scrumptious bites of green onion perfectly garnishing the peak of the dish. Almost like a mountaintop covered in a beautiful blanket of soft snow.
Dishes like this remind me why food is an art and truly showcase the fine dining experience. And now the final bite, and majestical ending that could steer the mood of anyone’s day towards more pleasant waters. But wait! That was just the Bang Bang Shrimp! We almost forgot about dessert!
Tie it all together with a bite of Bourbon Brownie, then another, then ANOTHER bite! You can’t even stop for a sip of your espresso martini! It’s worthy of me weaseling my way into a slot on the TLC show, “My Strange Addiction”. I have never done drugs of any kind, but I imagine the serotonin release from eating a Bang Bang Shrimp in the dining room of Bonefish Grill Midlothian will be tenfold the release you experience from any other activity.
It is my love, it is my passion, it is the reason I keep coming back to Bonefish Grill Midlothian. P.S. The Bang Bang Shrimp is recommended to be eaten with chopsticks but I don’t know how to use chopsticks. Just wanted to leave you a...
Read morejust went to the breakfast brunch experience at the Midlothian, VA location today. It was one of the worst customer service experiences I have had in a long time. We were seated at the corner of the dining chart which would not have been a problem if we would have been treated like everyone else. Unfortunately we were forgotten with another couple. Our waitress barely came to check on us. We had to routinely ask Travis another waiter that was not at our area to help us. When it came to bringing the drinks our drinks looked differently than everyone else’s. When I asked why..I was told that they ran out of bacon for one of our drinks so they took apiece and split it in half. The couple next to us received water down drinks. When the manager whose name I don’t recall finally came around but only to do a head count was told about it he decided to go back and forth with them instead of just fixing the drink. Also you could clearly see their drinks were different. I won’t be going back it was a horrible experience right down to the management. The waitress acted like she didn’t want to be there to assist us. But she did assist the table behind us very well. Not really sure what that was about. The drinks that I had an issue with, the table behind us received drinks right after us and were made properly they didn’t run out of items for them. When I told the manager about the drink incident he said oh that shouldn’t have happened and walked off. Towards the end we’re watching everyone else with their server and ours is no where to be found. We asked Travis again if we could have to go boxes and a bag. He was nice enough to give them to us. It’s very said because our expectations were to go and have great time. It was stressful and aggravating we most definitely will not be back to...
