First of all, let me start this out by saying how awesome their waffles are! My boyfriend and I love this place so much we come here on a regular basis, sometimes 1-2 times a week! We love the variety of waffles and have always enjoyed our food. However, their customer service definitely needs improvement. Sometimes when we come in, they wait on us at the table, other times we have to place an order at the register before we sit down - nothing is wrong with either way they choose to do it except no one tells you what's going on. We've sat at a table waiting for 15-20 mins before someone finally came and told us we needed to place an order at the register. The next time we walked in, we stood in line to order only to be told (after waiting 10 mins) that we could have a seat and someone would be out with us shortly. There is no consistency here. The MAJOR issue I have is actually placing our order. There is a younger gentleman (who is very awkward, never says hello or how are you, which is whatever) that takes our order. He never writes your order down but proceeds to get you to repeat your order 4-5 times before walking to the back and putting it in. He then comes out AGAIN to verify what you wanted to order. Keep in mind, as stated before, I've been here multiple times and this continues to happen every time. Sometimes our food comes out right, sometimes it doesn't. We've been charged incorrectly a couple different times by him. He mixes up tables and doesn't know what goes where, mixing up drink orders, etc. As a manager myself, I can definitely see that he needs some additional training. He isn't bad but he's made our experience less than satisfactory on several occasions. So much so, that my boyfriend and I have decided that from now on, we are ordering online and eating our food either outside or in the car due to constantly having issues while placing/paying for our order. It's a shame because I tell everyone how much we love this place and post it on Facebook regularly. I hope they get this young man the help & the confidence he needs to...
Read moreYou know, I couldn't tell if I was gonna write a review about this or not. But I kept thinking about and I had to get this off my chest.
Some friends and I went there yesterday morning after looking at the reviews and pictures. We got there and got seated. Nothing seamed out of the ordinary.
1st. I don't know what kinda music was playing but for a "breakfast/ Brunch" atmosphere, Jazz EDM is not my cup of tea. And it was very loud.
2nd. The waitress was all business. No pleasantries. Frankly it looked like she was irritated all 6 of us were there. God forbid. At the end, as he got our check wrong, corrected us, but for some reason charged us $4.99 for a "custom order"? What is that? Like removing sprinkles form an already terrible meal? But I digress.
3rd. The food was not good. It was honestly, kinda gross. And I got the most basic one you could get "the country scramble" or whatever. Eggs, gravy and fried chicken on a waffle doesn't sound bad. But the chicken tasted like Tysons chicken after a long microwave. And frankly, these are separate meals combined into one. This is interesting, if anything its glutenous and lazy.
4th. Only reason I couldn't give it 1 star was because I think for the amount of food you are receiving its not overpriced. $11 for a large waffle covered in topics that don't belong there. I mean, I guess, whatever.
Maybe this is your cup of tea, but I won't personally be going back there. There are too many better...
Read moreI learned about Capital Waffle Shop through a Valpak mailing. I pretty much ignored it the best I could, but today I couldn't seem to get off the couch and all I could think about was a waffle. Then a friend texted me and asked me if I'd done anything fun today and somehow that turned in to meeting at Capital Waffle Shop in a small place tucked between a hearing aid store and a tattoo shop in a small section of an ever changing strip mall.
The restaurant closes at 2:00 p.m. and there was one or two other people there when I arrived about 1:20. The very friendly waitress greeted me and gave me a table while I waited for my friend. She was very personable and I really enjoyed talking with her about how she came to VA and plans she was making.
The menu has many different varieties of waffle combinations. The prices are very reasonable. My friend and I both decided to order the chicken and waffles with a Cap'n Crunch powder!! It was $5 for a half order or $8.99 for a full order. After much deliberation, we both went for the full order thinking we would take at least part of the chicken home.
Well, nothing made it home. The combination, waffle/chicken tenders/Cap'n Crunch was not easy to put down, so we ate it all and decided we weren't going to eat anything else for the rest of the day hahaha!
There's another Capital Waffle Shop in downtown Richmond and also in a couple other cities in VA....
