I have enjoyed the Carrot Tree however on Mother's Day my son and were, what I felt, rushed through our meal because closing time was coming up. And my eggs benedict was cold. Today my husband and I stopped for a late lunch with our arrival and seating at 2pm. We placed our order and observed our watress taking several others' orders at two/ three nearby tables. At 2:45 we still had not been served but those that placed orders after us were and eating. The wait staff avoided us, no one came by to check on us, not an apology on any delay was offered. We finally stood up at 3pm, then the wait staff came over but my husband said we were leaving after an hour of waiting for our food I still don't know where it was. There was NO apology, NO food, no one came to say we would not be charged, NOTHING! Either cut the menu down, increase kitchen staff but this place needs work. We should have known we were in trouble when we ordered a Bloody Mary and were told they "gave up" their ABC license. I'm sorry we previously enjoyed this restaurant but we will not be back until management makes some serious changes.
We finally got our lunch at another nearby restaurant within 15 minutes of placing our order, what I think can certainly be expected for lunch. It was fresh, hot...
ย ย ย Read moreLook, I've always loved Carrot Tree, especially their cakes, but this morning I had an experience I've never had before at any place of business, which is that an employee, who I think was the manager, baselessly accused myself and my companion of being on drugs. We are W&M graduate students; it was early on a Friday morning, my companion called me at about 7:30am after a Thursday night out and I agreed to take her for breakfast; I was wearing a years-old rock concert t-shirt that I use for PJs, and she was wearing what she had worn the previous night. Based on those heuristics, apparently in the judgment of Carrot Tree staff we were high. A manager(?) sat beside us and directly accused us of being on drugs. The accusation was utterly false, prejudicial, and offensive, and I can't possibly understand the rationale for accusing customers in this way. He clearly did not believe our denials. Anyway, Carrot Tree seems unaccustomed to seeing W&M students at 8:00 AM which is just as well, because in the future they will not...
ย ย ย Read moreGreat bakery for any occasion - special or everyday. Very good breakfast and lunch also; reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. I highly recommend the Lemon Chess Pie, Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie and the Sausage Quiche. Excellent Valentine's Special Dessert selection also. Can't wait for Easter! UPDATE 26 May 2019 While the bakery section if The Carrot Tree is good to excellent, I am downgrading my restaurant review. We arrived around 12.45p today for breakfast. Good waitstaff. Ordered two breakfasts and waited over 30 minutes. A gentleman (manager? Unknown) stopped to say sorry for the delay finally after I asked our server where our food was. She said the kitchen was slow. Yup, agreed. While I appreciated his stopping by to apologize, I thought it was an unreasonable length of time to wait for uninspired food. We like to support neighborhood establishments but it'll be a while ...
