Charles' Kitchen Caribbean Cuisine — Restaurant in Virginia

Awesome food, delicious, hot, perfectly seasoned...I did not see a salt and pepper shaker any where..I get it...Charlie knows what he is doing...his food is perfect. This was our first time eating at Charlie's. We had no idea what to eat but my cousin thought the specials was a good place to start. When I asked Charlie he gave details about everything we asked about. I chose hot pepper pork, coconut rice and cabbage. Lots of meat with a brown thick sauce, the rice was perfect and the cabbage was beautiful and delicious, I could have eaten a bowl of it. My cousin got chicken, it was delicious..perfect. oh we got the plantains nice..sweet soft and yummy. Brussel sprouts were hot flash fried with sea salt yum!! We split a rum cake...so tasty ..next time I will take it warm. Charlie has a nice comfortable place. I loved the container of 3 shells. I have to talk about Charlie. Charlie was not only welcoming and charming with lots of charisma...I have to say he was good looking as well. The music playing was a smooth jazz. All in all my cousin and I had a wonderful evening...we both felt going to Charlie's was like going to family. This was our first time and we will go back. We had an awesome meal. So so affordable and we had a charming host. Thank you Charlie for providing us good delicious and wholesome food and allowing us to enjoy your company. I highly recommend Charlie's Kitchen. An appropriate name...because it felt like we were eating in...

Charles and his kitchen has fell completely off. The food is not fresh no more. I would expect fresh food every time just not when the owner Charles is there. I ordered a large beans, coconut rice and cabbage, and the containers were not filled up it’s more like I paid $7 for a small. The beans was not flavorful at all, the rice was not cooked properly and it was just regular rice instead of coconut rice like I ordered, and the cabbage was so hard to the point where I couldn’t even eat it. When I expressed the portions of the food to the workers that was there at the time they just kept looking at me and did not say anything as if they did not speak English. They didn’t apologize or anything, horrible customer service. I called the next day and spoke with the manager Charles and he told me to come on a Tuesday after 5pm to replace my meal but he wasn’t even there like he said he would. It’s safe to say I will not be going back to that establishment, I’m better off learning how to cook the food myself. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Don’t...

I've never had a saltfish Patty before, but I'll definitely be having them again after trying it here for the first time. The accompanying sauce was like a spicy sweet and sour sauce and was a must for this dish to perfectly balance the saltiness of the Patty itself. I enjoyed every bite!

The stew chicken was very good and cooked well, but for me could have used a bit more flavor and fire, but I guess they toned it down for the average American pallet. I'm not complaining; again it was very good.

The spinach rice was a perfect base for the chicken or to be mixed with the accompanying beans. They have a coconut rice option also available.

The plantains were phenomenal and added just the right amount of sweetness to contrast the rest of the meal.

Overall the serving size justified the $14 price tag.

The Hibiscus drink ,"Sorrel," was kicked up and refreshing with a heavy hit of clove that I really enjoyed.

I'll definitely be coming back to sample the other items and the other...
