Cielito Lindo is a hidden gem with most delicious food. I am not an expert in Mexican/ Latin American food, but being a foodie tough me how to identify the good places. You have to look beyond the location, old menus covered with plastic being taped onto the counter multiple times (made it hard to read), and the simple dining area; focus on what is coming out of the kitchen. Everything was made fresh with fresh ingredients. I have ordered Caldo de Res/Beef and Pollo/Chicken Empanadas, Carne Asada/Steak Tortas (served with French fries), Revueltas/Pork & Cheese Pupusas, Pollo/Chicken Huarache and Pastor/Pork Huarache, and a big bowl of Caldo de res (Mexican Beef Soup). I love the fact that none of the servers worked at the counter spoke English, I had to point out the items to place my to go order. This place is really authentic. Even though the waitress didn’t speak English, but I can feel her friendliness and effort of trying to make me comfortable. She immediately sprayed and wiped the table as I was sitting down. She brought me the bowl of Caldo de res while I was waiting for the other food to be prepared. The Beef Soup was filled with large tender beef pieces, ear of corn, yucca, potato, carrot, cabbage. The soup had the perfect flavor and it was great for the cold weather. There were also rice and corn tortillas come with the soup. The rice was the best in Richmond. I can just eat it by itself. Chopped white onion, cilantro, and lime wedges were on the side for seasoning the soup. Just a side note, I drank the soup and put the leftover dry ingredients in a soup container. The nice waitress took my container and filled all the way up with fresh broth. At anywhere else they would charge me extra for the broth. I was very grateful. Since all the pricing information were scratched off the menu, I had no idea how much I have paid for each item. Total was over $70 and there was a 4% Non Cash Adj for credit card payment. I couldn’t find the Pupusas when I got home, probably got lost in the translation. They were less than $2 each, it wasn’t a big deal. The photos don’t do justice with wilted lettuce and melted cheese. You probably want to have your meal there while they are hot. I will definitely...
Read moreThis place opened up not too far from my house and I’ve been eager to try it. I’m thrilled that we finally got the chance for a dine in meal. The place is very well decorated and clean with plenty of space and a nice bar. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely amazing and this place has definitely made it to our list of regular restaurants we’ll continue to visit. The chips and salsa is some of the best in the area. For our meals, I had the taco locos and it was delicious and fresh. My husband ordered two of the quesabirria tacos - they are big portions unlike most restaurants, and could’ve gotten away with one. We ending up taking his second taco home. My son had the kids taco, rice and beans and he devoured it all. If you’re looking for a new Mexican restaurant to try, I highly recommend stopping into Cielito Lindo for some delicious, fresh, Mexican cuisine! The music was...
