Daily Grind — Restaurant in Virginia

I frequently visit Charlottesville but this trip was the first time we came to the Daily Grind. In just 2 stops, this has become I must stop on all future C-Ville trips. The first day we came, we heard the owner talking and interacting with a regular and they were chatting like old friends. Not to mention the fantastic Chai Tea I ordered.On our second visit, same experience. The owner of this shop is such a sweet guy and I can tell everyone who comes here is great friends with him. I finally found a delicious matcha latte and it's here! I ordered it with crushed strawberries in the bottom, went outside to drink it on their lovely front porch area and wow was I blown away, delicious! Honestly it was so good I had to pace myself from slurping it all down in 3 gulps. Then I had to talk myself out of walking back in to order a large of the same order while still finishing the medium I had first ordered but boy oh boy was I tempted! Awful service by the owner! No sale! We planned to buy drinks and ice cream. The owner stopped the clerk before she checked us out. I explained to the owner that my family has a legal medical exemption to the mask mandate. He refused to serve us; he wouldn't offer to bring food out or anything. We try to patronize small, locally-owned businesses whenever possible to help them, so his obstinate, unaccommodating response caught us off guard.
