I've been a fan of Dave's for nearly 25 years and my husband grew up blocks from Dave's and has loved them for over 45 years. Since the new ownership, we've noticed a couple of things. The pros: The frozen pizzas seems to have remained essentially the same frozen pizza we have always loved. Yes, we get it that inflation happens and the prices have to go up and honestly as long as it's still the same great frozen pizza we've always loved that we can pick up a bunch of and take home....neither of us mind the price increases. The subs too seem to be just a delicious as always, so thank you for that. The cons: My hubby was up yesterday and picked up two of the take and bakes. First of all, you keep saying you haven't changed a thing....yet the crust isn't at all the thin, cracker crust we've always loved! In fact, on one of your review replies you actually said "The only change we made was adding more hydration to the dough so we don't have to beat it into submission with a rolling pin." So yes, you did change the crust and while it still tastes alright, it's not the original thin crust Dave's has always had! Also, what in the world happened to the fresh sausage? It was awful with a weird aftertaste that was tinny and almost like there was a bunch of celery salt or something added. Definitely not the yummy fresh sausage I've always loved on Dave's pizza. My husband was devastated to discover the take and bake pizza is not at all the original Dave's of the past that he grew up loving. We're glad the frozens and subs are still great, but please consider changing the crust back or offer "thin" crust as another option and please, change the fresh sausage back,...
Read moreUpdate, food is still garbage...I love how they say they will consider people's reviews, but don't. Also, I notice now, they spend more time defending the changes to the product than fixing the food. Hey ownership, spend less time online and just bring back the old ingredients and recipes. Should have tore Daves down when the Roosevelt was demolished. So sad....
Previous.......So seriously Dave's....after your changes, that have not been received well, when are you going back to the original ingredients and recipes? We want to know. Also, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. You keep telling us you'll take our comments into consideration, but you don't. Are you ever going to admit your mistake and bring back the original recipes? This is a joke.
Been a customer for over 40 years. Have always loved the pizza, subs and frozen pizza. Not sure why the new ownership felt the need to change an institution. If it ain't broke...you know. I heard the food was different, tasted different. I didn't believe it. Just had pizza last week. Super disappointed. It's not the same unfortunately. I mean, it was fine for someone new to Dave's Pizza, but if you want what you have had since the beginning, sadly, it doesn't exist anymore. Thanks for the memories Dave's, I won't be back. At least Sammy's Pizza in Hibbing and Bimbo's Octagon at Side Lake...
Read moreI've long been a Dave's customer. After the new ownership transfer, we decided to try it out. Things were... not the same. And prices had jumped. We decided it wasn't worth it to pay the prices for the lackluster food. Fast forward to today, over a year later; we decided to try again. Well, the subs are still relatively the same, but the prices are astronomical. I get the days of $2.50 half subs are long past, but when 2 full subs are nearly $30 WITH THE CASH DISCOUNT it's a bit ridiculous. Let's price it out. A loaf of bread like that probably costs around $2 (especially since they were made in house at one time), meat and cheese probably a dollar, and veggies a dollar. So $5 to make one of the subs ingredients wise, especially when buying in bulk at wholesale prices. There are labor costs and such but to charge almost $13 for a very basic sub? That is a pretty considerable markup. We won't even eat the pizza anymore after the change to the sauce and such. All in all, the quality and cost do not match. So, we will choose to continue to make our meals at home for the same or...
