Family Bakery & Mrs. Doughnut — Restaurant in Virginia

On our first visit, we bought some of the bread rolls, a doughnut, two muffins, a ham and cheese croissant, and a butter croissant. Everything we bought was flavorful. The highlight for me was the croissant because it was exceptionally flaky. Layers and layers! Better than most of the big, fancy bakeries I've been to in the DC area. The blueberry muffin was also great. Not cloyingly sweet so we could still taste the blueberries and whatever the delightful base flavor in their muffins is (vanilla but something else too?). The bread rolls were very soft and with great texture from kneading. My son said the doughnut was amazing! Don't expect a fancy setup. It's a simple shop, with not an overwhelming number of options. Showed up at the place at 7:30 on a Monday and most of the donuts aren't ready yet. The cranky lady who must be the owner says they wouldn't be ready until 8. Now don't get me wrong, their donuts are very good, but who the heck has time to wait till 8 on a Monday to come in and buy them? I mean most people have work. The place doesn't even open until 7:30, so you would think with all that extra time, when all of their competitors are open for hours before them, that they would have their stuff ready when they open. Went all the way there to order a birthday cake cause her website says they make birthday cakes. I went in and ask her I like to order a cake. She said NO we don’t make cakes. Very nasty . I went out got in my car and looked up above the door and there is a big banner that says we make Birthday cakes and wedding cakes and so on. So I went back in and said well why do you have a big banner above your door . She said that’s old like I told you we don’t make cakes. I said well take it down and change your website .
