We always stop at this exit on our way home from the OBX. I was in the mood for chinese food and despite the pictures in the window, that really do a disservice, we thought we'd give them a shot. I'm hesitant to try unfamiliar chinese restaurants when I'm traveling but we couldn't have been more pleased. They had a great lunch special that was even available on weekends. My fiance got the General Tso's Chicken and I got the Kung Pao Chicken. We got a side order of crab rangoon. The bathrooms were not the best. The men's room had a leaky and rust stained toilet and my fiance wouldn't go in the lady's room after opening the door but she doesn't like public restrooms in the first place. The man at the counter took our order and asked us to have a seat. It took about 5-10 minutes and he called us up. I couldn't believe all of the food we got. Two very large styrofoam containers completely filled. The food was so fresh and tasted great. Not even counting the crab rangoon we both had enough for two large meals. I like spice so I wish the Kung Pao Chicken had more of a kick but the flavor was fantastic. The crab rangoon had so much filling and it was warm and creamy like it should be. They could leave them in the fryer for a little longer to make the wonton extra crispy but that may be just a personal preference. We met up with the rest of our group. We all got food from different places and ate together. Nobody could believe how much food we got or what we paid for it. Everybody agreed that we would all be going to Guan's...
Read moreI believe the owner is a racist towards Indians. From the first time I entered his restaurant and every time after that, before even talking to him, he would get tense and visibly ill-natured upon seeing me. Even though I was always pleasant towards him, his demeanor would obviously and consistently shift from cordial, perhaps even pleasant with non-Indian looking people, to nasty as soon as I approached the counter.
I noticed his mean-spirited nature from the moment I met him, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe he was having a bad day. So I went about 5-6 times, always explaining away his rudeness. I also didn’t want to think it was due to race.
But then I noticed how his demeanor would shift from people in front of me to me when I’d get to the counter. And then he was very ill-tempered with my friend as well. He even verbally asked her if she was Indian, which showed that he was thinking that, because she was connected to me, she must be. Then, after she asked him a question, he rudely said that she could see he was busy, when he actually wasn’t busy, as there were very few people in the restaurant at that time.
The food is alright. But I wouldn’t recommend visiting a place where the owner doesn’t know how to treat all people equally and respectfully. I hope he learns how small and harmful his thinking is eventually. Hopefully no one treats him in the same way he treats others. Although, maybe experiencing it himself would teach him what it feels like and why he...

We came in like a whirlwind .. party of 8 (6kids and 2 adults), starving from apple picking, and in desperate need of a meal that was not cider doughnuts or apples.
We pulled up to the corner store of a strip mall and to a unassuming chinese restaurant that looked more like a to-go place only- which it kind of is but they immediately helped us out. They immediately began shifting tables and accommodated all our cutlery and impromptu dinner needs.
We ordered 6 dishes… and man, each one was really good. Nothing was too gloopy with over-starched sauces. Everything tasted fresh.
I watched them save produce boxes from other warehouse stores for their customers - they packed trays of food for their customers so they could carry out their orders easily .. they care. By us, I have definitely gotten orders with sauces spilling into the bag in a pool from cracked containers by the time I got home.
We are from mainly NY and NJ before moving to DC and miss good Chinese food. I can’t believe we found some in Winchester! It sucks that it’s so far from us, but you guys in this area are lucky to have them.
